Bought a bottle of Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax at Walmart about a week ago. Thought I would give it a try to see if it produces a shine that holds up. Probably will use our recently purchased 2016 VW Beetle Dune Coupe as the test case.

dedwards0323 - Well, the beetle looks good! Was there any trick to using this new stuff? I wonder how it will look on darker colors? Like swirl marks, or streaks! Will be interesting to see how it go's. I've been such a fan of "P-21" carnuba wax that it might be hard to change. Is the ceramic stuff hard to apply and then buff out? Let us know.

Product is supposed to be a simple application during car wash. (See product info below)

After washing & rinsing off the soap, simply spray on Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Wax and then follow that with a second rinse with a strong stream of water. This final rinse helps to spread and lay down the wax evenly for you. Dry your vehicle like you would normally with a quality microfiber drying towel, like Meguiar’s® Microfiber Water Magnet™ Drying Towel. There’s no rubbing or buffing and there’s no curing time. You’re left with ceramic protection and durability well beyond conventional wax and extreme water beading protection.

However, bottle clearly states that if applying the product for the 1st time, you dry the car after the washing & apply the product afterwards to lay down a good protective film. There is no curing time, so the product can be spread & wiped off immediately. I've only treated the hood & the hatch cover so far.

Just ordered some , Armor Shield IX with nano technology (whatever that is) compliments of my stimulus check hope this stuff is as good as they say . I will clay bar the car before i apply it . I'll post my results

 

I believe the Meguiar's product states to clay bar the car before applying the ceramic spray wax initially.

 

With the storm front coming thru yesterday, I took the time this morning to use the rain water as the lubricant for the Meguiar's CeramicWax on our 2016 VW Beetle Dune Coupe. Took me about 40 minutes to do the entire car. I'll post pictures later today of the finished product. (Note: I use a similar product on our 2007 Limited Coupe and get excellent results. Kinda nice not having to wait for a product to form a haze before wiping off.)

 

What's your opinion of the ceramic wax vs carnuba paste wax ?

 

I see there is another who sometimes does the vehicles in the rain. Ppl don't understand rainwater (after a few minutes) is extremely clean and 'soft' because the prior rainfall removed most if not all of the minerals out of the atmosphere! Yes, I'm 'crazy' smart, and among others who know! The harder the rain (not wind driven) the better the rinse AND the fun!

For now, I think both products are excellent. The Hybrid CeramicWax is so much easier to apply. No waiting for a haze to appear to let you know to wipe off the residue. It is as easy as "wax on; wax off". The finish looks good when I completed the detail job. Only issue remaining is will the CeramicWax hold up like the Carnuba. Sure Hope So!

And now that I've laid down a good initial coating of the CeramicWax on the Beetle, Meguiar's says I only need to apply a future coating right after rinsing the car during a wash. Then just spray off the CeramicWax with a second rinse. Supposedly, the CeramicWax will spread out across the surface & fill in any voids to maintain the protective coating. Then just wipe down the car to restore the shine. Time will tell!

 

So this afternoon I gave the 2016 VW Dune Beetle a thorough washing. It was actually the 1st washing since I completed the application of the Meguiar's Hybrid CeramicWAX on the exterior. I was very pleased to see the water "bead-up" on the car's surface. In addition, the soap looked like it actually was "sliding" over the surface throughout the washing. A complete rinse (which was easy to do; soap just slid off the car's surface) & wipe down with a detailing towel followed. Car really looked nice when I finished up. Product looks to be okay by me.

 

My go to wax is hands down is Gtechniq products. I've used all of their products on my cars and the finish last sometimes up to three years. Check it out

dedwards0323 - Have you noticed any difference, one way or the other, with water spots? I live in a area that has very HARD water and every time I was the car I get those darn white water spots. The car has a good coating of P21S carnuba wax but it still water spots. Doesn't matter if I wash it in the shade or in partial sunshine. Of course the spots are worse in the sun because I can't get to wipe it fast enough to keep it from spotting. Does the ceramic application give any relief from the dreaded white water spots?

No evidence of water spots and it has rained hard in SC during month of MAY. Water beading is still as good as the day after I applied the wax. I have a large oak tree that hangs over my driveway. And the oak is forever dropping sap on the VW Dune Beetle. I can spray the car with a water rinse and the sap almost jumps off the surface.

I noticed last time I was in Walmart that this Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax is also available in a liquid. Saw a display for it on an end cell of an aisle. Didn't look to see how application might be different than the spray bottle. But I'm satisfied with the spray bottle version.

 

I haven't tried the Meguiar's ceramic wax yet but I have tried the CMX brand and I loved the results takes no time on our cars and water just beads up and slides off

 

OK. I tried the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax this afternoon. It's crazy easy to do. I have been using Meguiar's Carnauba paste wax for a long time. But this spray on, rinse off, and then dry off Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax is looking as good as the carnauba wax. But I'll wait a day or two and see what it looks like in full sunlight. After staring at it in my garage, my "impression" is the shine and gloss is not quite as deep as the carnauba wax. It's close, I think. And maybe it's my old school preference for the carnauba wax. But I'm not an expert detailer. I could be wrong.

We had low humidity today so I had to work quickly to do the final dry-off stage. But even if you miss a spot, you can go back and wipe some more to get a good shine.

The only thing that concerns me is the step where you rinse it off. Seems like that lets the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax run over the headlight lenses and other plastic parts. I'm hoping that it doesn't have any negative impact on those surfaces.

 

I'm still trying to understand how the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax works. I'm not a chemist.

This blogger gives a pretty good overview. I need to re-read it a few times. I'm guessing that the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax is a combination of the ceramic nano particles and SiO2. Maybe that's why it's called hybrid.

I've noticed on some of the SiO2 (ceramic) products out there that a few indicate the product works similar to Rain-X when applied to the windshield. Gotta try this with the Meguiar's product next time I use it.

 

I have a question, if you ever have to apply paint to touch up or repair your car after ceramic application does the coating have to be removed so the paint will stick? Also how permanent is the application?
