Re: Vacuum operated Muffler

I saw a muffler today that was incredible! My friend just brought home a new 2008 Corvette with the option exhaust. There are two mufflers sitting side by side with four stainless tips (two on each muffler). I would love to use just one of these mufflers on my Crossfire. Under normal driving exhaust comes from one tip but when the vacuum drops a butterfly inside the other tip open for a straight through exhaust with a roar. Has anyone seen this type of muffler available in the aftermarket?

my '06 bmw 330i has the similar butterfly valve in the muffler ... it opens on one side under full throttle (wot).

The Audi and VW crowd use them, I've seen it on a guys VR6, but it works off of boost pressure and is easily adjusted to keep it from activating at to low of an rpm. Pretty cool but I'll leave that for the german ricer crowd.

Re: Vacuum operated Muffler

After seeing it in action on the Corvette I thought is as a nice way to have a nice civilized sound and then be able to uncork it when needed. It would seem like you could keep some low end torque/back pressure, but then gain top end when the system opens up. I did some checking and can't seem to find any use by Asian ricers. Just German cars, the Corvette, and GTO's from the late 60's.

My stock '92 Dodge Stealth RT Twin Turbo has manually active exhaust, just a push of a button and I can change the tone of the exhaust from loud to quiet, it also has a butterfly inside the exhaust pipes...very cool... It also has active suspension, a push of another button and I change the suspension from soft (tour) to stiff (sport)...
