I chose just to use the filters. I'm not sure, number wise, what I gained but I do have better throttle response and seem to have picked up an mpg or 2 on gas mileage.
I was going to get the intakes but since they're located out in the engine compartment behind the radiator. I figure you're sucking in hot engine air and defeating the purpose of a cold air intake.
The original air intake is getting air through the grill. I figure it's colder air and just as good. Plus, you may or may not like the increased engine noise caused by the intakes.

Both companies have good & proven air intakes with proven gains - more than just 2 K&N air filters is going to gain you - however, they are more money.
Do a search on the forum - lots to read.

Keyword here is "Cold Air" intake, K&N, Volant, Injen, AEM, Ractive somehow do not make one, maybe if someone convinced AEM or Injen to make one they'd be best.
Cold Air Intake System is the cheapest and best bang for the buck to gain HP
Proven that in order to produce more HP you need cool air, all I have found so far are kits with filters mounted in engine compartment and the heat produced by our engine is so intense that all that is being sucked in is hot air.
You simply have to look at auto racing, mastered in F1 (which technology is more closer matched to our type engine) drivers are constantly looking for clean air for maximum engine output and perfomance, thus there should be no gain and possible loss of power using those in engine bay suck in hot air.
K&N are good product over stock, however very mnimal gain power wise and maybe .5 MPG gain.
Look in threads I think someone made one that sits behind grill.

I had OEM style K&N filters in my car and then purchased the needswing CAI. I can tell you you will feel more of a increase in response with the CAI. I will also comment you will feel a increase with the K&N filters just not as much.
