Car won't start

Came home fro, a trip and went to start the car, Tick, tick ,tick was all I heard. Went to Walmart and bought a Maxx 48 battery. Had it checked before I left the store. Installed the battery and I get the same thing. Direct replacement battery was selling for $180 at Autozone. I will spend the money if necessary. Any clues as to what the problem may be?

Check your Relay Control Module.... give it a smack and see if it starts.... Tighed1 has a write up on how to resolder and fix it....;)

Checking your battery and started connections to be sure they are clean and tight is always a good basic first step too.... (some people change the battery and forget to clean the terminals!):(

X2 on the Relay Control Module. Grab a soldering iron and give this a try....

Thanks for the possible remedy. I went back to the car and turned the key to run. All the warning/ indicator lights were dim and flickering. When I turned the key to start; everything went dead. i removed the RCM and turned the key to run with the module removed. All the lights were bright and the stereo even played. I will be doing the solder thing in the morning and am hoping for the best.

Drum roll please....................................After doing the solder fix; I plugged everything back in and turned the key! I still had the problem. The car is now on its way to the dealership and I will share with the group what the problem was. Thanks for trying to help a brother in need!

Hi Pat,

I guess you are right. I hope to hear something by tomorrow. I was trying to hold off until I got a few other things done first. No worries though. I'll be smiling again in a few days! (I hope)

It's a rare occasion anyone leaves a dealership smiling, just saying.

Car is fixed!~ YAY!!!!! It was a loose/ corroded ground wire to the chassis from the battery. I would have never thought of that. Cost..................$108.00 Back on the same day! I am smiling because I thought it was something really bad! Besides.............I got the Tighed weld out of the way on the RCM. Now back to bigger and better things! Thanks for everyone's help!

Glad you got it fixed, forgot about that ground wire. Good you fixed the solder points though, still something I have to do. Come up to Burtonsville Sunday and hang out for a bit.

Great 'heads-up' for the remainder of us when 'car won't start' issues surface. I once had a positive battery cable cause this problem intermittently on a Merkur XR4Ti I owned. Had the car towed 2x back home when the car acted up on errands. Turns out the positive cable had a bad spot develop and it surfaced after driving sometimes. $10.00 part fixed this issue. Some of the simplest things cause the biggest headaches sometimes.
