Default crossfire air cleaner assembly

Does anyone have an idea where I can get the silver air-cleaner assembly. Looks like there have been a couple of screws overtightened and broke the plastic inserts in the plastic shell that holds the aircleaners.

Thanks for your help.

could you use a plastic epoxy to repair them? at least that area hidden under the cover.

the other choice is to keep an eye on ebay for one.

Never really looked at these close whenever I had the cover off. If inserts are really used, can you remove the damaged ones and replace with typical plastic inserts. You may have to shorten them to get them to mount flush.

Otherwise, as stated earlier, I'd go with using a plastic repair compound from Permatex or Loctite. You could try two approaches:

1) Apply some to the crack on the outside of the hole. Sort of like a reinforcement approach. Make sure the tapped hole stays in its original shape. Probably used a toothpick to apply the compound. Wouldn't hurt to apply some along the crack line inside the tapped hole. Once it hardens, you should be back in business. The material applied inside the tapped hole will allow the screw to grab something when you tighten it during assembly.

2) You can always fill the hole with the repair compound. After the compound sets up, drill a pilot hole for the screws.

Good luck,

Another possibility is to use a good Super Glue product from Permatex or Loctite. If the insert on the underside of the engine cover is only cracked from the screw being overtightened, you should be able to apply a Super Glue product to the cracked area and just hold it closed for a few minutes. Should be good as new and fully functional. You won't overtighten the screws since you're aware of the problem.

And, oh by the way, it's a common practice for folks (including service techs) to overtighen screwed assemblies that consist of plastic materials. Over the years, I've found cracked plastic assemblies throughout interiors where someone made attempts to repair something and then overtightened when re-assemblying brackets and/or trim panels. Just human nature to turn until we can't turn no more!

Thanks for all of the great answers to my air intake problem. One of the best results of buying this crossfire was discovering this forum. What a great bunch of folks.

Thanks

I do not know what you mean by broken. I have just had mine apart to clean the filters and the self tapping screws just thread into holes in pillars that are molded to the housing. If the pillars are snapped off then you may have a problem as plastic is terrible to glue together and have it last. Molding epoxy putty around the broken area after roughening it up for the epoxy to get a grip may work. Fiber glass is another alternative.
If the threads are stripped then you can carefully add a little epoxy down the hole or a small sliver of wood that reaches the bottom of the hole and use this for the screw to engage.

I am not sure what you have broken, but I will have a complete srt6 assembly, and an extra engine cover put up for sale soon....no need to have them for wall decorations. I have two of the engine pans as well. Just taking up space. Grilles as well will go up soon...
