Default M112K's, M113's and the NSG370

So this has been discussed a ton on this forum and others, but the majority of my remarks were in my thread and constantly changing. Everyone has their opinion on them based off discusion, the flywheel's and the clutches but it's time to express my experience, understanding and opinions on this transmission.

The NSG 370 is rated for 370nm, which is 272 lb-ft of torque, input, meaning flywheel torque. The M112K's (32 amg's) are rated 332 ft-lbs at the flywheel at 4 something thousand RPM. The M113 E50 (5.0L V8) is rated 339 ft-lbs at the flywheel at 2700 RPM and carries more torque through the range, longer. Obviously we don't care about hp because we need to look at force.

Now there are two different crank bolt patterns between the SRT, and the pre-07 NA's. In the 07-08 crossfire's they went with the newer bolt pattern. It was previously believed that if you did a swap or manual conversion that you would need a 06-07 C230 flywheel. These are smaller than the Crossfire's in every way.

For those that follow my thread, you all know a 55K engine is going in with the manual. Most of you also know how nerdy with research I am , I have called everyone I needed to, shown people in town, and just searched and searched the web... Our Dual Mass Flywheel, is not going anywhere period. A V12TT might kill it pretty fast, but I bet you could still get 10K ish miles.

The clutch is a different story. According to SPEC, there is no option for what I'm pushing for, but there is if you have an SRT, NA, or NA V8... You don't NEED one... Let me repeat, You DO NOT actually NEED one with I'll say, any less than 400 crank ft-lbs. The stock setup will last a while, especially if you don't drive like me.

Example for the last bit? I drove the crap out of my Crossfire NA V6 6-speed, 76,000 miles were on it when I started the swap. I'm still using the stock flywheel and clutch and have put 5K ish miles on the conversion so far. I drive like I actually meant to use the swap. Neither is going anywhere any time soon.

Another? JimmySkullz is using the smaller C230's and it's still going. Plus his is more modded than mine. Full done exhaust, and a CAI.

Believe me, if I ever feel any give in my clutch, as if it were dying, the forum would be the first to know. I have a brand new LUK setup to go in. All of my previous vehicles have been manual's and I know when a clutch is starting to go. Mine feels like day one.

Hopefully this can help some with understanding from someone with direct experience...

Good info, and great news for the 6MT fans (I'm one of 'em).

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thanks John, I guess time will tell what the true potential is for it, but if Mercedes made a 50% safety factor then the trans is good for 400 input ft-lbs.
