2004 crossfire starting issue

Hello everyone! My 2004 crossfire won't start 1 out of every 15 ish times. It will really try hard to start and just stumble for the whole start process. Then you turn the keep again and it starts fine. Anyone have this issue before? It's not throwing any codes and it has a new fuel pump and filter (I thought it was getting weak fuel pressure) and it has about 180,000 miles on it.

You're on the track , I would be going in. Since you've done the pump an filter ,with the high milage(that's a factor) maybe run some Seafoam through the system to clean the injectors. Have you done a reset for the throttle? Sometimes it gets use to a driving pattern , an this would set it back , to what it should be.

Yea i've done a injector cleaner. I will try the throttle reset. I wonder if the crankshaft position sensor might be acting up.

That's a possibility. Its been suggested, you can remove it an clean the bottom surface , then reinstall. If your tinkering around this weekend ,try both suggestions (throttle reset , clean CPS) .Do reset first, then try the other. If it works an you haven't already changed the CPS , get a Bosch @ maybe amazon , right now they have, about the cheapest price going. Let us know how it goes...;)

Steve, it's a magnet with some wire wrapped around it, it does not care if it's bottom is clean or not.
There may however be a problem with the connector, clean THIS with contact cleaner.

Yes I understand that , but the "discussion" was saying, that over time it may build up particles an shavings of rust an debris , clinging to the magnet. Hence,, removing, cleaning, reinstalling. Its not something I would do to fix it, but I would do it to get home. :)

OK, point taken. I'll shut up now.

No, your right! The connection has caused people more problems , than anything. My thought was, he would clean that when he removed the CPS. BUT, you know what they say about ASS-U-ME!...

If the CPS was a problem then surely it would act up when driving?

Could be the fuel relay in the relay control module. I've seen the relays work/not work randomly.

Thanks for the imput guys! I have replaced the cps and reset the throttle. I will report back with results. I will check out the fuel relay etc if that doesn't fix it.
