!st gear popping out
!st gear popping out
Hello,
I just bought a 2004 Crossfire yesterday. First gear seems to pop out when the clutch is in and braking.. A friend sent me a memo from Chrysler where it talked about quit messing with the transmission and tighten a cable. Does anyone know about that? I did take it to a transmission shop, and of course they won't know whats wrong til they drop the transmission, Anyone else have this issue? All the rest of the gears are fine. Some people claim 1st gear not needed anyway, but I would rather have it fixed. Car has 49700 miles

Welcome to forum,
that is normal for the nsg370, well let me clarify, not the popping out, but not going all the way into 1st gear, if you pay attention sometimes going into 1st you can feel a doubke click, when it pops out it just doesn't go all the way into gear, with this transmission and the short shifter might seem like you need to be alittle agressive.
when I got mine with 50k miles I had it pop out acouple times and popes the shifter right out of my hand, but paying attention sometimes you can feel the double click, if it does not go all the way in, or if you wonder, or if it does not go into 1st at all just drop to 2nd then back to 1st, if 2nd a problem, drop to 3rd then 2nd then 1st, the gears might not be synchronization and changing gears helps align.
I changed all fluids when I purchased and trans again at 100k and again at 150k with royal purple.
Every trans shifts different, but tricks help learn best shifting and knowing how to work clutch can make clutch last alot longer.
there are sooo many threads about people scared there trans is out and they just got it, with 1st gear pop out, buy odds are it is just not going all the way in.
any ?'s just ask

Re: !st gear popping out
Read the TSB attached, check that the transmission is adjusted properly as I doubt that it has gone on for nearly 50,000 miles without a cure when it was new and done for no charge.
I found on the manual tranny I had on an '04 that if I did not put it fully into position it could pop out, maybe that is your problem.

Re: !st gear popping out
After I had it happen and just changed how I shifted and no problems, I drive severAL different manuals all the time, like today a eaton 10 speed, and tomorrow will be a 8 speed, and both of those if you use clutch while you shift, you will not get into gear and use clutch only to take off.
