blower motor won't shut off leads to no start
 

UGH....pulled out my car to make room to install the stereo (just cleaning up some extra room in the shop, we haven't touched the stereo at all yet) (2006 Crossfire)
....blower motor keeps running after the car is turned off. Pulled fuse number 37 (might have been 36) to stop blower motor and once I replaced the car attempted to start twice but stalled right away. Battery was a bit low so I put a charge on it. So when I turn the key on now the fuel pump runs but I have no instrument panel or crank.....all fuses have power....soldering the rcm did not work. It turned over 3x and stalled again right away and then nada. I have drained the capacitors no luck. Sounds like it could relate to the skreem module right? Maybe not tho...we have disconnected the battery, reconnected it, starts now only a couple of times, dies right away and then no crank. I have headlights and radio. No instrument panel lights, locks don't work. I can't help but wonder why all of a sudden the blower and the no start issue.....could this all stem from the blower motor? I know that Chryslers modules/relays etc all work together......Any suggestions we have been fighting with this problem for a few weeks now....tia15 Comments

Three cranks then nothing is a bad SKREEM, a bad key fob or the black ring round the key is unplugged from the SKREEM.

The blower is powered by battery thru the 'blower resistor' and I'd suspect the resister is bad, about $30 online and you can change it in 20 minutes, they essentially plug in.

When you turn the key on, wait 30 seconds, does the engine fan ramp up to high speed? IF so, that is usually the RCM, the output of the Engine control relay not making it to the ECM, the RCM is suspect then.

If the fan does NOT come up to full speed, then I'd turn my attention back to the SKREEM.
But it sounds like a SKREEN issue anyway. Given all these electrical complaints, I'd be wondering about:

age and condition of battery
condition of battery cables and terminals
condition of the ground jumper from engine block to chassis

What I am saying is, replacing the SKREEM will probably get the car running, but you better be looking at why all these electrical symptoms happened in the first place.

Battery is less than a year old
condition of battery cables, terminals, ground jumper and engine block to chassis are perfect
and new batteries in the FOB which I only have one of
When the key is turned on the blower fan does not ramp up just stays steady
Also when it happened originally I got the 3 starts and then nothing, that only happened 2x, from then I have only gotten 2 starts
Have had the scanner on the car these are the codes that came up
P2071 (D1999)
P2316
P2315
P2300
P2402
P2561
P2562
P2500
B1422 .......not sure if this is a code this all comes from the mechanics scrawl There is also P250 and I'm not sure if the last number/letter is an A or maybe a 4

Try putting fuse 36 back in, and pull the orange 40 amp fuse from the RCM, or just unplug the blower motor at the motor.
See if anything changes.
If so, send the RCM to tighed1 for a new blower relay.

the pdf doesn't have a complete listing of codes starting with P2, which I see you did mention...although I did see in your post you addressed the codes seperatly. thank you....I will check which fan I know that fuse #36 shuts it off
I will also try pulling the 40 amp fuse but the rcm has been checked and looked fine

I asked about the ENGINE FAN.

It is hard to help someone from 1,000 miles away, not answering my questions makes it impossible.

I still don't know if the ECM is powering up because you did not tell me what the engine fan does.
I am using the engine fan as a diagnostic tool.

No it does not ramp up because the car will not crank so the engine fan will not run...it is the blower motor that is the problem 100%

No I am thinking I have to seperate problems that happened at exactly the same time. It started with the blower motor not shutting off, pulled fuse #36 to stop it from running and the next day when I went to start it and pull it into the shop it wouldn't crank

Wrong. You are not reading my posts, a failed output from the Engine Control Relay will cause the car to not crank, that is, not engage the starter. In this case, the engine fan will, once you turn the key on, run up to full speed in about 20-25 seconds - this is a sure sign that the engine control relay's output is not making it to the ECM.

It is a very valuable diagnostic test.

how is the engine fan going to run if the car won't start? I have explained that once I remove fuse 36 the blower stops. I have also explained that the car will only crank twice and then stall immediatly then nothing unless I unhook and hook the battery back up then once again it stalls immediatly after trying it twice. So if I go out right now and turn the key on for 30 seconds or 30 minutes nothing happens.

The fan for the radiator WILL run at a high RPM is what he is saying ,if the engine control relay is bad. Upon turning the key to the second position.

but when I turn my key to the second position I get nothing, there is a click and that is all. No fans are running. The only thing that works are the headlights and the radio......I'm sorry I am not trying to be stupid or niave but when I turn the key on nothing is running :(

Did you wait 30 seconds like Mark said to see if the fan comes on ?

Because the two are not related - the engine starting has nothing to do with fan operation, fan operation is electronic.

When you turn the key to "ON", the Fan Module powers up. If the ECR in the RCM does not activate, the ECM wo'nt power up. NOW you have the Fan module looking for wakeup pulses from the ECM but not getting any - so it goes into emergency mode and runs the fan at high speed.

Yes I waited for several minutes with the key on as suggested :) When the key is turned to on the engine fan does not come on at all.....so what does that mean?
