2005 engine stops in middle of road
2005 engine stops in middle of road
Hello, We have a 2005 coupe and recently have experienced the engine stopping while driving with no warning and cannot get it started unless the engine cools down. Jumping does not do anything. Becoming unreliable and unsafe to drive at any speed. Local Chrysler dealership has no idea--been there several times. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much

The battery in the FOB is for the transmitter that locks and unlocks the doors, and only that.
The RFID chip in the key is what enables engine start, but once the car is running, it's job is over.
This is a classic "my Crank sensor won't let the car run until it cools off...."
Go get yourself a BOSCH crank sensor at GermanAutoSupply.com or FCPeuro.com.
YOu can buy one at Advance or where ever, but often their parts are not quite to spec and you end up fighting a ghost.
Just go online and google "Mercedes 2003 SLK320 Crank Position Sensor" and buy the BOSCH part, not the cheap fake parts.

As mentioned, most likely the CPS. Check for fault codes. CPS will throw a code. Replace with a BOSCH CPS ONLY.
If no code, could be the relay control module. Turn the key to the ON position and wait 30 seconds.
If the radiator fan spins up REALLY fast, RCM is the problem. I can fix it if bad.

The fob batteries have absolutely nothing to do with starting the car. Those batteries only enable the doors to be opened remotely.

Non sequitur, nothing to do with his problem!
Again, non sequitur, nothing to do with his problem! Your post is confusing and not helping.

Change the Crank Position Sensor and the Cam Position Sensor together.
Mine hadn't even gone out yet and they both got replaced. PREventative maintenance.
I think I paid $60 for both of them, both Bosch on Amazon.
To reiterate as others have said, key fob batteries don't have anything to do with the car stalling or not starting.

So what the issue did I have? The engine got off while I was driving on highway. Couldn't start the car again and annoying sound came up when I was trying to start the engine. Then I disconnected the battery for about 5 min or so put the battery terminal back and then everything was fine. It happened to me 3 times until the battery in the key fob has been changed. After replacing the battery I have no any issues at all.
That's why I was offering to replace the key fob battery.

There is literally a ZERO chance that your running issues would be caused by dead batteries in your key fob.

Leaking batteries in the alarm module will cause the alarm to go off randomly though.
I really do think your situation was purely coincidental.

Okay, I read all the responses to engine/car stops and can't crank back up. Just recently having the same problem. But the issue started in May 2015 when the mechanic removed and replaced the rear right wheel speed sensor and secondary air injector. Codes P0410 - Secondary Air Injection System, P0500 - Speed wheel sensor. From 2015 up to current, I've changed I believe a total of 3 speed wheel sensors. Recent diagnosis done February 2020 says Codes P0410 - SAIS, P0335 - Crankshift Position Sensor A Circuit, P0151 - 02 Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 2, Sensor 1). I have a 2006 Crossfire 6 speed, base model, Red. My ex hubby purchased off the showroom floor. Unique car indeed. He gave the Crossfire to my Son, Juan and my Son sold it. DoggoneIt! I went and purchased it back from the company that bought it without revealing who I was nor let my son know about it. I asked the dealer to deliver to my home and park in my driveway because I was leaving for Massachusetts. Came back home, called my Son to come to the house. I asked him, Is this our Family Car. He said, Yes, Mom. I asked him to check it over thoroughly. Well they really screwed up the family Crossfire and put the wrong oil in it, messed up the beautiful shine, took the original car mats and the freakin Good Tires on the back. It took a while to fix all of this. So with that said, I am going to do all 3 recommendations. Mainly because the Crossfire is 14 years old. She due for replacing belts and all kinds of parts. Which is what I've been doing. Even put a new wing on her in Black to match the black trim. Thank you helping me solve the issue. Appreciate it. Pie Banks-- Grandma's Ride & Baby's Toy!
