Magnesium Valve Cover Corrosion
I'm seeing the initial signs of surface corrosion on the aluminum/magnesium valve covers of my 2007 Coupe. The PS valve cover has some significant corrosion on the front end which is quite visible to the naked eye. Looks like I'll be spending some time this weekend cleaning up this surface corrosion and inspecting both valve covers thoroughly to see if there are other spots with signs of surface corrosion. I need to look over the intake manifold also.

Re: Magnesium Valve Cover Corrosion
Remove them and paint them with engine paint.
Its fast, easy and they will ook great. Or or you can spend the next week trying to polish them. |

As a side note, are they magnesium? I thought they were an aluminum/magnesium alloy, magnesium is expensive, aluminum is not.

You are correct again, onehundred80. Sorry for the confusion. Valve covers & intake manifold are an aluminum/magnesium alloy.
Thanks. |

I have whitish spotty light corrosion on the intake plenums and I would like to take it of. It is just spots and I would not want to make it more obvious than it is, any ideas? I might paint the spare valve covers at some point, black or silver, until I make up my mind what colour I’ll put that on the back burner.
Thanks. Here are links to the YouTube videos I found: Hope this helps, |
