Do you Recommend Changing Spark Plug Wires

Okay, I have a 2007 automatic crossfire. I am at 81,000 miles and I am going to be changing the spark plugs. While I am at it should I also change the wires. Or if I am not having any problems should I leave the wires alone. Back in the old days (50 years ago as part of a tune up you changed the wires, coil and plugs. Is that not the case now (minus the coils---no problems there). Back to my question should I change the wires as a matter of course or leave them alone if I am not experiencing any engine problems.

The same question goes for the engine filter, which I have never changed.

What all should I do to tune everything up along with my spark plug replacement (I realize from all of the reading I have been doing that the crossfires do not need tuneups per se). So, I guess at my mileage what would you guys be changing as a matter of general maintenance

Thank you

Engine filter??? I really hope you don't mean oil filter.

As for the plug wires, as long as they don't show any signs of damage, and you don't have any reason to believe they are failing, save your money!!

One of my 04 XF's has 183k with the OEM plug wires. Runs like a sewing machine.

And don't forget it needs 12 plugs.

To both gentleman who replied in the above, thanks so much for your prompt reply and I will take your advice and leave well enough alone.

One last point. I have read several threads about the kind of plugs to get and the proper gapping. On my 2007 automatic base model what plugs do you recommend and do I have to do the gapping myself or can I get them already gapped properly

I buy mine from needswings. They come pre-gapped.

That is exactly what I will do.

Thanks

The Needswing site for the plugs tells you the gap is 1mm (.039") and shows you how to set the gap, that tells me that they may not be preset for 1mm or at least you should check the size when they come.

I would check also but mine were all right on.

.

:) Anyone who has changed plugs on any car or truck, will tell you to check the gap. A slight bump in the wrong direction from shipping could throw off the gap when 'pre-gapped'. Check em and be sure! :)
