well the short message is :- the dealer fitted a new auto dimm mirror, after he took the standard mirror out.

HE HAD TO DO IT OR FACE A LEGAL ISSUE Because the standard mirror was not legally in the specs for the advertisment (IT SAID AUTO DIMM MIRROR FITTED) for the particular car on offer when i bought it

So if you are doing it yourself then first get an auto dimming mirror that has similar fixings as the mirror fitted at present , and look in the wiring diagram as to how to connect it ( its not hard to do )

i can send a copy of the wiring diagram if you havent got one

There are still many 2004 auto-dimmers available on car-part.com for $20 and up.
It's best to call and have the person actually LOOK at the mirror to be certain it has no distortion,
some of these seem to have a liquid crystal 'bleeding' issue.
