Driver's side low beam out, bulb, fuse ok? What's up?

On my '05 Ltd coupe, the "bulb out" warning light came on today when I turned my headlights on. My driver's side low beam was out. Put in a new bulb. Still no low beam, just high beam. Checked the fuses. No bad ones. Anyone have any idea or had a similar situation? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

could be the housing that holds the bulb. the metal tab in the housing can break and not make contact with the bulb.

 Explain please. A new and an old bulb both broken?

The bulb is a self contained unit and needs just power to the two terminals, positive and ground, it needs no contact with the headlamp housing if that is what you mean.
Just push the socket on.

I'd check for power in the socket and for continuity in the old bulb first, but the new bulb should check out OK.

Check fuse 8 in the illumination control module ( the removable panel at the left side of the dash )
If it's good, then
Disconnect the headlight UNIT connector plug, you should see :
12v at pin 3 for the low beam,
12v at pin 4 for the high beam,
12v at pin 1 for the turn signal

If 12v is present with low beam on, then there is an issue internal to the headlight unit.
If no 12v, then the wiring from the illumination control module is in question, or the ICM itself.

see schematic on 8L-80 of the service manual.

also fuse on 8W-50-3
