Installed the front parking lights referenced in the first post and I'm getting an indicator light out. It says it's a canbus. Anybody else run into this?

Odd, they didn't throw it for me. Here, let me link you to another version with a higher CANBUS resistance built in. These should never give you any problems as far as that system goes.

Get the pure white with a slight tinge of blue if you want the brightest option.

 

i gotta agree with adrian, while i cant attest to blinding any one, leds just don't get along with our housings, they just aren't quite there yet. the beam is simply unusable and i spent a few hours with a few different models of LED head lights the ones that seemed promising didnt fit, its a crap show, stick with HIDS in the projectors everywhere else LED , i did LED fog lights that genuinely rival my head lights in the near range light out put without blinding folks

 

Headlights like ours use a parabolic reflector and the source of the light has to be at the focal point of the parabola so the light can be focused into a beam. Bulbs with a large source of light cannot be centered in the sweet spot, the light is then reflected out in an unfocused pattern.
That is the reason for the blinding glare you get. That's the way I understand it.

 

I put led lights in the eyebrow, reverse, map, trunk and license plate lights. Going to install the glovebox and the markers when I get a minute.
What I now have in all look great..
I would like to do the brake lights and turn signal as the stock lights look crappy compared to all the other led ones..
Are there any canbus ones for the brake and front and back turn signals?

 

Adrian_X thank you for the LED list! I have been updating my bulbs to LED, currently on the back end. Does anyone have any help or guidance...I replaced the reverse bulbs with non-CANBUS LED added a resistor(on passenger side), but still has the glow(only on passenger) and the bulb sensor on the dash. I see three wires going to the bulb housing(two black and one brown) would you be able to advise proper placement for resistor? Also, what specs are needed for resistor?

 

MrMiata suggested a 5watt resistor, which is what I also use on my reverse lights. It does the job and no more dim glow.

 

5 watt? it took a 50watt for mine to settle down...

 

OK, so I have a 50 watt 6 Ohm resistor connected, but still has the glow

I understood the OP to say resistor attached on passenger side. Do I need to place one on each reverse bulb? Otherwise, which of the three wires should the resistor be attached?

 

The black and brown wire that run parallel with each other over to the socket.

 

Something doesn't add up. The smaller resistor worked just fine for my LEDs on the reverse lights.

 

I'm going with not installed correctly..

 

Thank you Mrmiata and Adrian_X for the feedback. And yeah, I had the connection right, but it looks like the quick splice I was using wasn't getting a good connection. So I think Mrmiata pegged it. I pulled both off and check directly to see what I could get to work. As soon as I touched wire to wire...success. Reconnected and is working just fine now. Glow is gone and bulb sensor only comes on when in reverse.

Just a quick follow up reference note.. If you have the "glow".. put the car in reverse gear to turn them on.. if the resistor doesn't warm up.. you are not making contact.


Sorry didn't have that advice at the start.. it just dawned on me as a good way to check..

 

Yeah initially the resistor I put on got really hot the first time I tried it out. Then after that it calmed down and only ever gets "warm" basically.

I normally don't go the "cheapest route possible" but for something as simple as LED's I figured i'd go the cheap route and see how they hold up. $20.00 for the whole kit which replaced both rear tag lights, both interior dome lights, the rear hatch area light and the glovebox light. So far they all work like a charm.

 

Reviewers are saying those fail quickly and one even burned out their license place lights holder. That's not exactly ideal lol

 

They have worked well for me so far. Haven't had any issues to speak of.
