Courtesy - Dome - Map Interior Light Bulb Information
Having bought the wrong bulbs based on stale info in other threads, I've added this thread so that others don't fall into this hole. (Yes, others have corrected this info, but those corrections are often buried deep in the other threads, so I am bringing it up here to the top level to help others.)
This courtesy - dome - map interior bulb is not the same as the festoon bulb used in glove box and trunk! The correct bulb part number is 194, which has a wedge base. FYI I switched to LEDs and am very pleased with the results. The light is now much brighter, but be aware that this bulb gives a cool white. My choice was the Philips 194LED, which comes in a two pack for ~$11 from Amazon. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...0216c2ffb2.jpg |

These ones are really cheap, mine were a bit more expensive but only 3W but exactly the same to look at. CLICK |

Dome light:
After the door is closed, the dome light dims but does not go out. I have already replaced it with one I purchased off e-bay with the same problem remaining. What is the fix for this problem? JoeG |

Re: Courtesy - Dome - Map Interior Light Bulb Information
I have a 2005 roadster and I tried to change the map light bulbs but they have plastic shields over them. After removing the light cover how do you remove the half round plastic shields over the bulbs to pull the bulb out?

Re: Courtesy - Dome - Map Interior Light Bulb Information
There is a tab you have to depress and then pull out be careful plastic gets brittle with age just like me.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...64627752bf.jpg You can see the tab at the upper right of the part, it might be easier removing the light assembly Buy the led bulbs with a color temperature 2700-3000 if you want warm white I don't care for the stark white color https://www.ebay.com/itm/Zone-Tech-5...wAAOSwZtpe2lx4 |
Re: Courtesy - Dome - Map Interior Light Bulb Information
Thanks for the quick reply and great picture. I tried to depress that tab but was afraid I would break it. I solved the issue by taking out the two screws in the map lights mounting and removed the mounting with the bulbs in it. I was able to remove the cup that the bulb plugs into from the back and replace the bulb there, then just reassemble. This eliminated messing with this defuser. Thanks for the link to the LED site. I will order these and change all lights out, yes with the temperature you recommended. I don't like the ultra bright blue tint of the higher color temperature.
I just purchased a 2005 red roadster and am going through it. It only has 37000 miles on it so actually I am just tweaking all the little things. Regards, . |

Regards, . :) Been reading this post and thought I would chime in by saying my lights had no 'cover' on them. I just plugged in the LED ones after unplugging the ones (incandescent), and then put the cover back on. Nothing like that 'lens' that is shown below. Maybe for the 2008's, they eliminated that 1/2 'lens' thing? :) . |

You can add some flat panel led's to give more light, I'm playing around with some different sockets here's a photo Does someone know how to attach smaller photos ???
