Illumination control module

Have a 2005 XFire, high beams not working. Mechanic says Illumination control module is toast. Anyone point me to where it is located? Want to find a cheaper replacement than the $1600 he quoted.

You have met an expensive mechanic, how does he know it is that module? It could be the multifunction switch. The ICM actually has the knob for the lights on it and you can only see the knob. ICM is just a fancy name for the light switch.
Canada has a different switch than the US. Maybe a Canuck has one stashed away. You can use the US switch by fitting a part you get from Crappy Tire. It will just turn on the low beams though when wired up.
You can get a used US ICM from eBay for around $100 to $150 plus shipping or find a scrapped Crossfire in Canada for the Canuck version.
Are you sure it is not the bulbs, fuses or multifunction switch?.

Thank you. Will certainly look at eBay options.
Bulbs replaced and fuses checked. ICM was overheating when high beams on, then shut down. So whereabouts in the vehicle is the ICM?

Hey Docsgwc, I see you are in Canada, is your car a Canadian market car (in km's)?
Our daytime running lights are all lights on, but unless you turn your headlight switch to on, the highbeams don't work.
Have you checked that?
If not, someone more experienced might chime in.
Good luck.
Steve

The ICM is right behind the headlight switch and is accessed through the panel on the side of the dash. The door must be open to see it.

Ok how do you know it was "overheating" if you don't even know where it is?
This sounds like an assumption, troubleshooting by assumption will waste time and money.

I'd bet the multifunction switch is the issue.
