Default Bizaar Crash In Knoxville

I just worked a crash on Sherrill blvd. in Kville. Driver #1 looses control and hits a utility pole and is trapped in her vehicle. The impact breaks the pole in two. The pole is only there to hold a guy wire that supports the utility poles on the other side of the street. (guy wire runs from the top of one pole, over the roadway, onto the pole that was struck and then is anchored in the ground.)
The guy wire falls across the road. Two good samaritans stop to help the trapped female. Another SUV does not see the guy wire laying in the road and runs over it. The guy wire gets caught in the rear tire of the SUV and because the end is still anchored in the ground, it gets pulled taught by the SUV. The SUV is flipped upside down in the middle of the road and the two good samaritans are struck by the guy wire.
Samaritan #1 GETS HIS LEG AMPUTATED AT THE KNEE!!! samaritan #2 is flung into the air, lands on his head and is in critical condition with bleeding on his brain!!!
Just when you thought you've seen everything.

That is indeed bizarre. Just a few weeks ago, there was a local incident where a lady was struck and killed while just photographing an accident. The accident and fire was on the shoulder of the east bound side of a big highway (4 lanes each side). The lady was on the opposite side going westbound. She pulls over, gets out of her car, walks out into traffic (traffic was light), steps into the HOV lane with the camera up to her face and BAM, gets hit by a car going about 65mph. The whole thing was caught on traffic cameras and shown on the news.

Hope it doesn't mess with yer mind.
Thanks you and all of the other officers out there that put up with this while helping the rest of us out.

I do crash reconstruction so I've seen alot worse than this. Even with all the gore, the worst part is giving the family the death notification. Most of the those, by the way, are caused by impaired drivers. This one was not.

911, I rolled on a car accident PD only...as I rolled up, I saw a VW upside down in the middle of this guys driveway...rt in front of the car right at 10 ft up was damage to a huge maple tree...now I am at the end of this driveway trying figure out how she hit the tree 10 ft up...turned an looked to my right, there is a light pole w/ a guide wire...she was on her cell phone, slipped off the edge of payment, hit the quide wire, up the guide wire, inverted the car, car strikes tree, drops straight down in its top...seat belt on, she was still hanging there when I rolled up...first time ever I got to use my belt cutter knife...not a scratch on her, and yes, you guess it, still on the cell phone...

This will become the official "Crash Thread" on the forum.
I feel for all of the law enforcement officers that see and deal with these kind of things on a daily basis throughout the country.

Buckle up and be alert

Glad you used "crash " instead of accident, Gary. 99.99% are no accident.

here's a quick one I just had in the other night...local drunk on his way home from the bar has a crash, hauled into the hospital, big cut on his head, bruises, scratches, cuts all over his arms and legs...deputy comes in, he is obviously intoxicated...I asked the deputy if he was there for a blood draw, he said no, just here to get a statement...thinking this was odd considering the guy is drunk...I asked, well, is he under arrest...he said no Doc...he doesn't have a license, he lost those several yrs ago for felony DUI...and I said again, and he isn't under arrest...nope, he passed out, ran his moped into a fence post and barb wire....wasn't wearing his helmet tonight....

An officer in Maryville TN. arrested a guy for DUI on a bicycle with a small wizzer type motor on it. It was a second offense and he seized the bike!!
Someone in GA. arrested a guy for DUI who was in an electric wheel chair the other day!
I have no sympathy for drunk drivers.

I wish someone had arrested me the time I tried to ride my bicycle very drunk in Korea!
I was on a very small base (no vehicle traffic) and I was trying to ride my bike up base and for some reason I kept falling down! Or course I'd get up and try again and again and again!

By the time I made it to my girlfriends house she thought that I had been in a terrible fight! Took awhile for all of the scrapes to heal. Stupid GI!

In law enforcement this is known as a self correcting problem!!
