$6.00 USD -$0.47 USD
$20.00 USD -$0.88 USD
$105.00 USD -$4.40 USD
$95.00 USD -$3.06 USD
$72.50 USD* -$2.40 USD
$72.20 USD -$3.12 USD
238.00 USD -$7.20 USD

Yeah they do get a chunk.
However it is by far the one of the easiest cash transaction methods.

I would guess the difference in fees is that one was a bank transfer and one was a charge card (charge card fees get passed on to the receiver)

How would that compare to credit card charges? How else would you accept payment?

It is less than American Express fees of 4%
Master card and Visa both discount payment to vendor and charge interest to card holder.

Pay pal at 3.5% is not out of line. Is it?

Re: I'm saying good-bye to Pay pal.

if it was a set % ,i could understand that but when it goes up and down like this
those charges above work out to ...
2.9%
7.8%
4.5%
4.2%
3.2%
3.3%
4.3%
3.0%
then I have to do something,,, just to let u know i am one of those that have NEVER paid interest on any thing ( except my house),, no ra rich person either, retired after 34 years working in Miami Dade water and sewer dept. I just never could understand why some would pay some one to spend their own money,,, every car i eve owned i paid cash for it or i could not have it. jim

They do take a chunk, and since ebay bought them, now it really kinda bothers me. My ebay and PayPal fees are crazy after a full month of selling, but it is easy, quick and secure. So, what you gonna do.

Ah.....the ultimate question. I very much respect you and especially the "NEVER paid interest" but that is so different from what todays economy and lifestyle is. No judgement here - just observation (and probably wrong)... I am guessing "today's" generation doesn't get your issue....and all (you and eBay/PayPal) have valid points. This is truly the question at hand........

Re: I'm saying good-bye to Pay pal.

Like all banks they have a fixed component and a variable one. Your overall cost for the financing was around 3.35%, plus your monthly.

I don't know what the actual numbers are off the cuff, but let's say you found an acceptable alternative, like the Costco deal for taking credit cards, and you saved maybe $10 in a month vs the ease of using Paypal for e-Bay transactions. I don't know if the $10 would be worthwhile.

So, is PayPal "earning" their money. I don't know. I do know that most business people think that the "other" guy (usually their vendor), charges too much. Don't we all. Cha Ching!

Re: I'm saying good-bye to Pay pal.

I basically only send cash and not receive using Paypal to avoid the extra fees.
