Toyota mess
Has anyone been following this mess?.....I think if toyota dont stop f*cking around they will seriously see a hit in sales esp. In the United States.
Todays paper VVVVV WASHINGTON – Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is telling owners of recalled Toyotas to stop driving the vehicles and get them fixed. LaHood's warning came Wednesday in testimony before a House Appropriations subcommittee on transportation. LaHood says his advice to owners is to "stop driving it. To top it off they didnt intially issue this recall they got pressured by the government to issue it....thats like shooting yourself in the foot in my opnion. From yesterdays paper VVVVVV WASHINGTON (AFP) - – Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak suggested Tuesday in media interviews that Toyota's troubles with a defective accelerator pedal may have to do with software, after his Prius sped up while in cruise-control. "Since my foot never touches the pedal," Wozniak told ABC News, the problem "cannot be a sticky accelerator pedal.... There might be some bad software in there." Wozniak, who founded Apple Computer -- now Apple Inc -- with Steve Jobs in the 1970s, said he tried unsuccessfully to get Toyota's and US authorities' attention after his 2010 Prius acceleration problems cropped up while he was in cruise control months ago. If a apple co-founder told me I might have software problems....DING DING DING id be f*cking listening...hes not just talking outta his a$$...and then he called up toyota and no one would talk to him.....so I say let toyota sink.... But this also raises another question....with so many issues with these toyota models...if you were to crash now and it was due to a gas pedal problem....and that they have told everyone to stop driving them....would insurance pay out? or would that be on the driver because he was told to stop driving the car?? Interesting...What do you think? |
Re: Toyota mess
If you had any idea how underhanded and shifty Toyota really was this wouldn't seem any different to you. Everyone talks about "Toyota quality" like it's something just short of being godlike. If I hear one more person talk about how their Toyota has NEVER had a problem and Toyota is so wonderful that they even pick up the car and return it to do oil changes I'm gonna run amok! Why do you think they are picking it up and returning it......they do the oil change AFTER they do all the recall work!
Want to hear about that wonderful Toyota quality......search for Tacoma frames rotting so bad after 1 year that the rear axle falls out! Toyota handled this current problem so poorly that the NTSB is going to end up fining them heavily. |

Re: Toyota mess
Add the below to their nightmare. Maybe, like GM found, it's not always good to be numero uno.
THE TOYOTA RECALL CRISIS Toyota ordered by Japan to address Prius brake complaints TOKYO -- Toyota Motor Corp., already grappling with recalls totaling 8.1 million vehicles on five continents, has been ordered by Japan's Ministry of Transportation to investigate a rash of consumer complaints about braking problems in its popular third-generation Prius hybrid vehicle. The Japanese carmaker has received several complaints about braking in the Prius in both Japan and North America since the end of last year, Toyota spokeswoman Ririko Takeuchi said. She did not say when the directive was issued or how Toyota would respond. She also declined to give a figure for the number of complaints but said most were filed since the end of last year. News of the fresh investigation comes as the world's largest automaker struggles to rein in a recall crisis aimed at fixing incidents of unintended acceleration in some of its vehicles. Since last fall, Toyota has recalled 8.1 million vehicles worldwide -- more cars than it sold last year. Problems with the latest generation of the Prius, which went on sale in the United States, Europe and Japan last year, would be another blow. The green halo surrounding the popular hybrid is largely credited for Toyota's image as a leader in environmentally friendly technology. “All the complaints were nearly the same,” Takeuchi said. “They are usually about driving in bumpy or icy conditions and when you push the brake, there is an unusual feel.”[/font] http://www.autonews.com/graphics/an_arrow.gif story |

I think Toyota should be elevated to sainthood. Can a corporation become a saint? (Just kidding apkano. I just wanna see you run amok! :p ) |

Re: Toyota mess
True story:
I got into a discussion once with a guy who said Chrysler products were crap and Toyotas were the best you could get. I told him that, in my experience, Chrysler products are far from crap and that the last two I've had accumulated in excess of 100,000 miles over a period of 11 years and the only issue either of them had was a blown fog lamp bulb and a little rattle from the in dash CD changer in one. Both were fixed under warranty on the first attempt, and other than that single trip to the dealer (the dealer found the burned out bulb when the car was in to fix the rattle) neither car ever saw the dealer again. Both cars had very glossy paint (well, yeah, I owned them!) and the interiors still looked incredible. No squeaks (other than the CD changer previously mentioned), rattles, bits falling off, leaks, drips, etc. He blew it off and came back with what I'm sure he felt was a brilliant reply - he sure sounded proud: His current Toyota "has only required 8 non-scheduled trips to the dealer in 3 years, and that's pretty damn good!" Man, talk about buying the hype!! I've never owned a car that needed 8 non-scheduled trips to the dealer in any length of time! If I did, and certainly within 3 years, I'd think I had a lemon on my hands. By the way, I did not include my Crossfire in this discussion because at the time it had a mere 5,000 miles on the odometer - 100% trouble free. As for Toyota's latest woes, yeah, they've really handled this badly. First they blamed the uncontrolled acceleration on the gas pedal/floor mat contact and told people to put their mats in the trunk until they could be replaced. Then that family was killed the day after Christmas in Texas - when the car was fished out of the pond the floor mats were found........ in the trunk. Oh, well, gee, maybe it's something else. Rot the frames, sludge the engines, screw up the acceleration. Yep, there's a quality ride if ever I saw one. I never have, nor will I ever, own a Toyota. |
Re: Toyota mess
I will own any car except GM,, chevys are at the top of my list
you heard that 98% of all chevies ever made are still on the road------------ and the 2% left ----made it home ;; i own a camry 06,,, musstang 05 crossfire 05 amx 68 69 and 70;s sold my 12 second pt cruiser sold my Maxima sold all my AMC's so i am open to almost anykind of car, just no chevies |
Re: Toyota mess
have to agree amx, my last two Chevy experiences were not nice. As for this accelerator issue, if it gets stuck how hard is it to turn off the key? Or throw it in neutral? Both of those would seem logical if the peddle was stuck. I don't get it. This is a bad deal for Toyota. I've owned 3 and never had any trouble with any of them but they may have been pre US production come to think of it.

Re: Toyota mess
The media will never let the facts get in the way of a good story. You's be surprised how much information coming out of LaHood's mouth is BS. Also, do you know how many recalls Toyota has had since they came to the United States...... 1...this is the first one. I will be the firs to admit that the Toyota product line quality has diminished since the 2000-2002 model years but this pedal issue is out of control. Plus, the only affected cars have CTS pedals in them....and only 2 confirmed cases of sticking pedal due to wear, not a improper use of a floor mat.. All Japanese built models have Denso pedals and are not affected. If anyone would like more info I will be more than happy to share.

Re: Toyota mess
Maybe the way Toyota sees this issue is explained by their person in charge of quality-
Quote from Shinichi Sasaki of Toyota "The sales forecast is something that we're extremely worried about" :( & BBC News - Toyota car recall may cost $2bn |
Re: Toyota mess
I switched over & have owned Chrysler products since 1998
'99 Intrepid ES '99 Grand Cherokee (still have) '00 Cherokee Limited (still have) '00 Wrangler Sport '02 Ram 1500 Quad 4x4 (still have) '03 Stratus SXT '05 Crossfire SRT (still have) '06 Magnum SRT (still have) NONE - have ever been in for any mechanical problems. Crossfire was in for the leaky tranny plug and center caps when I first aquired it, and was covered under warranty. Ram had a recall to replace an electrical plug for the horn. That is it in 12 years. Before that was Fords and Chevys At the time Ford interiors fell apart (T-bird, and F150, Escort) Chevys ratlled and had one Camaro had tranny problems. But it really is not fair to compare quality that long ago to current. But I am happy with Chrysler brands at this time. Won't even consider a Toyota or Honda...ever. |
Re: Toyota mess
This is a recall in united states europe and china..... which has resulted in 19 confirmed deaths.....I doubt this is the cause of american workmanship...................

Toyota has a large amount of recalls. Air bags, transfer cases, cruise controll, brakes, drivetrain, ball joints, master cylinders. And I only checked 1 model year and 4 models. Does not sound better than any other manufacturer. |
