Why Don't We Do This?
 

And by this, I mean acknowledge other Xfire drivers when we're on the road. When I was a young man, one of my older brothers always had a sports car, a couple of MG's and a Triumph TR6. I loved going out on blasts through the countryside with him and always thought it was cool that, when we would encounter another of the same marque, we would always exchange a wave or other signal of camaraderie.
Now, to be fair, when I say we don't do this I'm only talking about my corner of the Golden Horseshoe in S. Ontario. Every time I've passed another Xfire I've always acknowledged the driver and felt a little stupid when they just look at me like I'm crazy.
Up until yesterday, that is. I was driving along and noticed in my peripheral vison that someone was shadowing me. I glanced over and saw a fellow in a white roadster giving me the thumbs-up. I returned the gesture and continued on to my destination. A few moments later that same white roadster pulled in beside me and the fellow introduced himself and we had a nice chat about our beloved vehicles.
Thanks for starting the ball rolling Steve! I hope to see more of my fellow drivers out there giving the thumbs-up!

I would like to wave at other Crossfires but I seldom see any. I still wave at MG's because I'm in a two seater. gary

In the 2 years that I have owned my Crossfire, the only time I have seen another CrossFire on the road is on the twisties of the Dragon. Too busy steering to wave there. :D

I will not only wave at a fellow xFire driver, I've been known to track them down and force my attentions on them.

Now, I know what you're all thinking. BUT I just introduce myself and hand them a CICCI card.

I think it would be pretty hard to stalk anyone in a bright red roadster!:rolleyes:

srt4s generally acknowledge me but they normally do so by trying to race me. Gets annoying fast...

when driving my srt6 I've seen several regular xfires but they never acknowledge me:(

Most of the ones I see on the road I will give an exhaust bark only 2 find out its a woman in her 50-60's!!! :confused:

I think I've scared a few folks by the way I enthusiastically wave, honk, flash lights and all to get their attention.
I've followed people home, left notes on cars and even went into a nearby restaurant asking everyone if they were the owner of the Crossfire parked outside.

I waved, and ran with crossfires that were going the same direction. I hate being honked at, so I never really used my horn.

Back in the late '50's I was in my mid teens. My older brother owned a Jag XK-140 Drop-top. I loved tagging along with him and his buddies who were members of a local British auto club. Waves were always exchanged between passing sports cars. Of course most highways in this area were two lanes, sometimes four so it was easier to get the attention of an on-comming driver. I can remember around this time I would thumb through or should I say "palm" through his Playboy Magazines. There was an article in one issue with the protocol of sports car waving. As I remember the lesser waved first and was promptly acknowledged. There was also a Playboy cartoon of that era which depicted two sports cars being towed in opposite directions, their owners giving the wave.

And I was beginning to think I was the only sick puppy out there. I have followed XF's into parking lots, pulled over on the expressway, parked next to them at the grocery store ,left notes on the ones at the dealer getting repaired, always wave or acknowlege another XF. I don't see many SRT's though.

My wife thinks I am nuts sometimes..... usually.....most of the time.

Stalking is stalking. But I do it too. I have even chased them down with a shovel. :D

It just seems weird that only a small percentage of us Crossfire owners are this obsessed.:rolleyes:

On the way back from a car show in my Alabaster coupe, a black coupe came up from behind me and started to pass, she slowed down and looked over at me, I gave her a thumbs up and she smiled. She then proceeded up the road. Crossfire owners are cool peeps. :)

I know what you mean, I've had a few I've popped a acknowledging hand up only to have them ignore you when you know they saw you. Yet others have enthusiastically wave I thought they would go off the road.

I had one guy parked right next to me at a gas station where I was getting coffee and he was too. I said hi and he never even nodded. It is what it is and if they don't want to reciprocate, oh well.

I always give a wave and if necessary a toot of the horn. Most wave back, although there are a few here and there that must not be "People of the Fire" . I see a few here and there in my area but it's usually no more than once a month == and it may be other the other side of the highway.

I do get other people to wave though --- but most of the time it's watching peoples heads swivel like the girl on the exorcist ...........as I fly by.;)

riding the Harley around....all the other bikers for the most part wave or whatever....as for the XF wave, if I know you, I will wave, if not, I will look to see if you are looking, then wave....most around here, just don't care about their car...it's transportation....even Vette owners around here don't acknowledge each other....now, in the big rig I get the one finger wave a lot....

It's pretty rare to see one in Colorado (it may be months or sometimes I will see three in one day). If I am driving one of the XFs, I will try to wave. I'd say that only 25% or so return the favor.

Now that I'm an owner I look for them, and itsky is right, you don't see many around here.
In the past month I have only seen 2; An SSB Roadster in Castle Rock from 600 yards, making a turn, and an SSB or graphite coupe going the opposite direction on C-470. (too quick to tell the color for sure.)

I've been known to follow an interesting car to talk to it's driver before, though.:D
And I'm actively looking for other XFs on the road, so I guess I have some of that obsession too.

Can you remember then, in the 50's -70's in Britain if you were a Member of the RAC (Royal Automobile Club) or the AA (Automobile Association), when the rescue cars/vans were parked at the side of the road with the RAC/AA driver waiting for a rescue call, would be leaning against his car with his company hat on. You were told that he had to salute to, by touching his hat, and if he didn't, you were to stop and ask him why. He would not salute you if there was a police car or a radar trap in the area, giving you the hint to SLOW DOWN. In them days it was the Car Club guys that turned up, AND RAPIDLY, now it is all Contract Wreckers. Granted a LOT more cars on the road now. Memories !!!!! Mind you I am an OLD Fart.
