Is this Georgia's Dragon?

Well, Saturday is no day to go up there, but here is a video of a Saturday run anyway. I won't be going back on a Saturday again, just too congested!

This is US129, yes, the one and only US129 - as you run north, up the south face of Blood Mountain, south of Blairsvillle, Georgia. If you push it, Fontana is about 1 1/2 hours from the top of Blood Mountain (the end of this video). I am 45 to 50 minutes from home - and this area is HIKING CENTRAL, so you know I am up there a lot !!!

As you can see, visibility around the curves is good and the speed limit is, I THINK, 40 or 45! You can have fun at 10 over, and have a BLAST if you push it farther than that.

LEO presence can be worst than the Dragon - and this was my first run so I was kinda keeping it cool until about four minutes in... and even after that, to some extent.

I know you can't tell, but over the course of this run (which I think is about 6 miles, maybe 7 or 8) - you climb from something like 1200 feet to over 3400 feet! Coming down, you don't need no gas pedal, but brakes are a nice accessory.

Nice video Mark. I have heard you can place a remote microphone under the seat to hear the car/engine better instead of wind.

THanks.

Not a bad idea, (the under the seat thing) I'm going to order a few cheapie mics and I may give that a try --- BUT --- one of the Gencoupe guys ran a mic back to the rear bumper and taped it there!

Wait, no, he mounted his CAMERA pointing back ward and I was just as impressed by the sound as the video!

Anyway, I am sick of the sound too, James. Gonna do something about it!

I may have to make my way up there sometime soon. It looks like a great drive. (In my XF or on my MV) :)

PM me when you go... and you won't go alone!!! If you get off 400 (where it ends) and turn left and go into Dahlonega, then follow 19, you will go thru some GREAT turns for about 8 miles, then dead-end into 129. Turn left onto 129 and in about a mile you will be where my video starts.

I live near 400's exit 14.

I went hiking on the Appalachian trail today. Four miles in the most wonderful example of the "North Georgia Mountains"! There was a point on the trail that I believe I could see 60 miles, and it felt good to be back in the woods again.

After I got back to the car, I saw a sign for a "Nature Area" and thought I'd go look at it. It was a SMALL. lake nestled in the mountains with a park built around it. Good only for fishing from the shore of - boats and swimming prohibited.

But the road that took me there, well, it could be "The road to (almost) no where". I started the camera right after I left the park. It is about 6.5 miles back to the main road and I did it in 8 1/2 minutes.

Perhaps Blood Mountain isn't really the Dragon - the curves are higher speed and you have two lanes in your directoin of travel at times.. Ok, fine maybe today's discovery will look more like the Dragon...

At about the 1:30 mark, I pick up the pace... wait for at least 3 or 4 minutes before you cancel the stream!
It's cool what you can find by NOT trying to find ANYTHING!

Another good find. It was a wise move to call ahead and reserve the road for your own personal use.
