This is where my Wife and I live, 2781 Waterloo rd. 44260
As you can see from the map, the apex of the very slight curve in the road is where our driveway is.
Today a 48 year old woman was travelling East past our home at 10:00AM in a 2000 Infinity. Just as she got past our driveway she kept going straight off the road for about a 150' (without braking) directly into a tree.
The emergency crew had to cut the roof off her car to get her out, and she was barely breathing. She wasn't wearing her seat belt.
I didn't find out until the evening news that she didn't make it.
I don't know the reason for the accident, but it all seems so senseless and sad.

 

That looks a lovely part of the world you live in.

hard to see how somebody could do what she did on that stretch of road besides thinking the obvious but as I know from my own experience working as a Paramedic here in the UK, there can be medical reasons why these things happen as well as careless driving, alcohol etc. At lease nobody else was hurt.

We have lived here for 31 years as of April 1st. of this year. There have been 2 other accidents within 50' of that very tree the young woman struck yesterday.
Both the other accidents happened late at night, and were alcohol related. In every instance, the roads were perfectly dry and the vehicles were totaled.
Our land covers 276' of highway frontage, consisting of two individual lots. It seems as though "The Waterloo Triangle" (as I call it) must sit squarely on the road between our two properties. (I'm not trying to be funny here) I simply don't know what else to call it. I have no other explaination as to why this little stretch of road, (less than a football field in length) is so hard to navigate, and seems to claim a victim every 10 years or so.

Whats goin on 10 mins away from where i live (Baltimore) is senseless and sad.

 

Sunday morning I noticed a small pick-up truck parked down by the road, and a man was walking around the area of the accident. I went down to speak to him, and it turned out to be the woman's Husband. He seemed as though he was in a daze, and he hadn't yet accepted what happened. He asked me several questions and I wasn't able to give him much info since I only heard the accident, and didn't get to the car for several minutes later. He told me she suffered massive head injuries, crushed her legs, and had many other internal injuries.
He just couldn't understand what his Wife was doing so off course from her intended destination, which was at least 20 minutes North West of where I live. She lived about 20 minutes South West from the accident scene.
Her Husband also told me that she often got directions confused, even once getting so lost, she drove out of state by by mistake. (It takes at least an hour to get into PA. from where I live).
It turned out, she not only left her Husband, but she had a family of 3, ranging from 17 to 24.
My only guess is that maybe she was distracted by looking at her cell phone, trying to get GPS directions.
It's been a very ironic last 5 days. My nearly 93 year old Mother-in-law has been very near death since last Thursday, the nursing home has somebody in her room 24-7, They told us they didn't think she would make it thru the weekend. When we were with her yesterday, she seemed to be breathing easy and seemed very peaceful. (Even with a heart rate of 137.) Yet this young lady of only 48 years loses her life in a second. You just never know. Or prayers go out to her family.

 

Well here it is, 3:00AM, and I can't sleep (even after taking an Ambian over 3 hours ago.)
My Wife and I were the only one's with her Mother when she passed on, and it was the 1st. time for either one of us to ever actually see a person take their very last breath. I hope I never have to witness that again, especially with a loved one. I wanted to be strong, and be there for my Wife, but instead it turned out that she was the strong one for me.
I met my Wifes Parents in 1980, and we hit it off right from the start. 3 years later they became my in-laws, and 2 years after that we supplied them with their 1st. Grand Child, our Daughter, Sabrina. One year before our daughter was born, my Mother passed away, but having such a terrific Mother-in-law to fall back on made it so much easier to move on.
Over the years we traveled a great deal together, they really enjoyed long car trips, especially since I was driving. All in all, I hit the Wife and in-law jackpot.
The last 3 years have been less than smooth sailing, and thanks to Alzheimer's Dementia, it been especially hard on my Wife because her mother acts as though she doesn't trust her out of her sight. Which is so ironic because it's another person who has quite literally stole her mother blind with out here ever believing anything we ever told her about it. My Wife is as honest as the day is long and it crushes her to see another family member step in and steal all her money and property. Leaving my wife and her older sister with nothing.
I can't wait for the whole thing to come to an end, and we will never have to see, or deal with that side of her family again.

I'm sorry for dragging so many of you into this Drama, but I feel like we're one big family here, and I feel comfortable talking with many of you about it. There's a wealth of knowledge here on this forum, and I've always been one to never turn down good advice.

Truly sorry to hear this news Mike. I know it has been a rough road the last few years, and it is traumatic to go through but I truly believe in time you will appreciate the fact that you were there for her at the end.
