First Italy, now Japan
Not sure how much I will be online the next week. They sent me to Milan in September, now, in about 25 minutes, I board a plane for Tokyo.
So if I seem a bit absent, you know why. |

Re: First Italy, now Japan
I could live here, easily. Wonderful, friendly people; high standard of living, etc.
Made some great memories today as I got a tour of my sons' ship (led by my son) and spent the day with his wife. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...67d595181b.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...b52f513615.jpg |

Re: First Italy, now Japan
That ship looks like it's rigged for ELINT operations...

You could add a little detail to the pics, Yokosuka being the US naval station in Japan for support of the 7th fleet. Formerly a Japanese shipyard etc. What about the mini sub, US or Japanese? The most interesting thing I learned about the base is that dry dock #4 was built in 1905. Not quite bit enough to hold my sons' ship, but pretty big. Didn't get a photo of it, as Kevin came walking up just as we made it that far. |

The ship is certainly capable of ELINT, to be sure, just based on what I saw and what I was not allowed to access (or even look at). |
Re: First Italy, now Japan
My cheapskate son and Yuki bought a car when they got back to Japan in August. 3 cylinder, 2002 Suzuki.(It is discipline like this that meant they were capable of paying cash for a $107,000 house on a sailor's pay after twelve years of marriage and fourteen years in the Navy.)
The car is sixteen years old and has factory, touch screen GPS. Their consumer tech is way ahead of ours. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cro...edd41af5fb.jpg |
Re: First Italy, now Japan
What size house did your son & his wife get for $107,000? I've heard that houses and apartments are very compact in Japan.

My hotel room here is probably not even 225 square feet including the bathroom. |
