Default How to stop the GD rattling???

Hello all,

I need help with the raddeling. I live in the midwest, Tulsa to be exact, where the roads aren't exactly I5 southern Cali specs. Has anyone ever had issue with raddeling in the hatch back, dash, or glove comparment? Those are my 3 worst right now and would like some insight if anyone has any. Thanks in advance.

I had the rattling in the hatch area. It was fixed when they replaced the latch. I think there is a TSB on this problem area.

Wow. My hatch just started rattling on 244, near OSU-Tulsa today. I'm looking into it.

I have 3 words for you:
adjust,
Adjust,
ADJUST.

All cars rattle sooner or later. You just need to find were to adjust or add a material to help out.

There's a **** on the left hand side of the stereo - turn that to the right (clockwise), this will remove rattling.

Mine has been rattling off and on since I've had it. Both my dealer and I have adjusted the bumpers and this stops the rattling for a time, then it returns. Well at least the problem is consistent. Normally when adjusting the bumpers I try to keep the bumper bottoms parallel to the hatch recess but since this doesn't fix the rattle long term I tried something different the other day. I pivoted the bumpers slightly so that the bottoms were rotated towards the front of the car. The single retaining screw and sloppy fit of the alignment pin allows enough motion to do this. So far this has worked and I only now hear a rattle when I hit a really big bump or drive over an uneven surface that causes the whole car to flex (think turning into a driveway with a slight gradient). Will have to go another couple of weeks or so to see how well this latest adjustment hold up.

As I just posted in the Coupe section , I am a new owner of a 2004 XF. The hatch rattled on mine and CarMax agreed to fix it. Before I took it back to them I found the TSB here on the subject and fixed the problem in about 10 minutes.

I also noticed the door panel squeaks and rattles when I rest my leg against it. When I get the car back from CarMax (fixing seat heater and headlight fogging) I plan to work on that. Maybe some weather stripping around the areas that rub?

Mine rattled when new. The dealer made one attempt at adjusting the latch, which didn't work, and then replaced it. I think there is a TSB on this and the new latch is better. Mine has not rattled since, even on a washboarded gravel upaved road.

In my roadster when I go over crappy roads the passenger seat rattles if unoccupied. Haven't figured out what is causing it as it feels pretty solid when I try to push it to see if it's loose.

Maxx
my 04 has recently started a rattle in the glove compartment, although it sounds more like a vibration than a rattle. :\

Over time, all cars will rattle. if you got pounded over these roads hard for all those miles you'd rattle too. I make it a habit to go over the car once a year and check for fastener tightness, and in all those years of cars I've never had serious rattles that were that noticeable. I always seem to have a few screws loose. The adjustment to the bumbers on the trunk latch really helps

AlG - Check the passenger seat belt buckle next to the center console, sometime it will rattle if its touching the console.

If I do not want to hear the rattles I turn on the radio, if I do not want to hear the rattles or the radio, I turn off the radio and my hearing aid. I deal with the wife the same way.

I have a really bad rattle coming from the center console. It drives me nuts... constant creaking/cracking of plastic. I'd like to know what to do to stop it from doing this.

My hatch rattled and I would adjust things and it would go away, for a while. I finally put a couple raps of tape around the round piece the hatch latches to and no more rattle.
