Installed new Momo shift knob today

Well I was always lukewarm about the feel and aesthetics of the factory auto stick knob that came on my car. So today my Momo Tube shift knob arrived in the mail. The model I chose is chrome with black leather inserts, they also come in different leather colors and a brushed finish.

I popped off the existing knob (without bashing the knob into my forehead, thanks to an earlier how-to posting)

The new knob sat about an inch too high. I thought about slicing the shaft shorter, but then the old knob could never go back on. I solved the problem by drilling out the Momo from the bottom with a 11/32 drill and making the hole about an inch deeper. Now it fits nice and low, a bit lower than the OEM knob. Waddyathink?

I was unaware that Viagra is now making automotive accessories.........
That's a nice matching of the burl-wood between your shifter and console.

As for the feel of the Momo, I much prefer it over the amorphous shape and feel of the OEM knob
.

Nice look Bimmer. I share your ambivalence about the factory knob.

Really nice shift knobs. The leather and silver looks cool. How hard is it to remove the original? Where can I buy a shift knob like these and is there a certain size to buy?

You non-stick drivers are killing me with concerns about how it feels when shifting, Come on really how much do you use it just to go into drive and the occasional reverse! Come on really how important can it be! LOL!

Just razzing you guys but I own a stick and I am looking for a nice shifter so I will keep an eye on the posts here.

THnx

Interesting developments in this thread. I have one like this and contact Momo about drilling it deeper before I installed it. They didn't recommend it. I guess the guy I talked to didn't know their product very well.

Everyone knows how important it is for your knob to feel good...right?

You just unscrew the bottom collar and pull straight up, just just don't let it bash into your coconut! If it's really tight lay a big bath towel over the top before yanking.

I got my Momo shift knob on Ebay.

I think it depends on the knob. Mine fit low right out of the box.
