Re: heated seats, seats or module

Hi, I t hink FUBU might have answered this question already but is there any definitive way to know if the control module is bad? If the Hazard button works or if say the passenger seat heats up (but not drivers) is there a chance that the module is bad still? Or is it the elements?

I'm actually replacing my seats and nto sure if my module is good or bad.

Re: heated seats, seats or module

In the same boat..... no driver seat, but passanger back is working. It's that time of year where the seat heaters are the difference between top down.... and top up. I am trying to follow the thread but it seems to be a bit misleading. no drive, passanger back means.... seat heaters? or module? or possibly both??? If my hazards work then the module is good?? Can I get a quick recap?

I think I was trying to get the driver side seat to work when suddenly I noticed my back getting hot, like the upper portion of the driver seat started to work. Made me think that the wires were getting worn going to or from one of the connectors.

Im pretty handy with a wrench, but not so much with upholstery. I was thinking about paying someone to do it.

Re: heated seats, seats or module

Hi all. I've got the same old story. 05 Roadster with functioning passenger side but no heat on the driver's side. I've been offered a complete second-hand seat from a breaker that has been taken from an 04 Coupe and my question is 'are the seats identical' (they are both black, which is a start!), as I have no way of comparing the seat design itself. Allegedly the seat for sale is fully working and obviously I'd rather bolt one in than mess about with seat pads, especially as the price is good.

I am sure someone out there has one of each in the garage and can do a quick check ! :D

Many thanks.

Mike

Re: heated seats, seats or module

05 Seats have a different wiring harness than 04 Seats. I found out the hard way. My heated seats were malfunctioning so I got a great deal on 04 2-tone seats. Went to plug them and noticed the plugs were different. The wires are all there, just different plugs. I was able to figure out what wire went where and resolder them to the correct plug.

Thanks Tageier.

Luckily I've got a friend who's an electrics wizard, so he'd be able to suss it, but it's good to know I'll need to line him up for the job, as I'd have thought it was plug'n'play!

I still need advice on whether the seats are physically the same style, but I'm dubious now...

Anyone?

Yes that is what we did to a few seats. Easy but time consuming little project, A few hours per seat is what is should take you the 1st time, the 45 minutes on the next ones.

Seat heater replacement

I haven’t found a current sticky related to the seat heaters and I’m interested in which replacement pads are the current favorites. I went to Heatmyseats and RockAuto and found generic replacements, but, not ones for any XFR’s. I guess that my biggest question is, do the replacements plug into the existing high/low switches or does it require manually making the electrical connections? I apologize in advance if this has been recently addressed, but, I didn’t catch it in my search.

Thanks,
- Brian

Re: heated seats, seats or module

Based on comments abovr, if heating element failed OPEN wire, mxodule should br fine. If element failed SHORTED wires, it would over amp module, failed module.

Re: heated seats, seats or module

Does anyone know where to find the seat heater repair kits? Are the generic ones worth a try? I looked online and even EBay without success. I have a mechanic friend that was going to solder things back. He looked at them and isn’t sure that there is enough wire. It’s both seat bottoms that don’t have any heat.

Re: heated seats, seats or module

Just to close out this thread… it turned out that both seats had the factory wiring that had been cut up. The replacement heater used separate wiring. The seat heaters are both working now. 🙂

Could you elaborate more on what you’re meaning please, as far as the factory heating wires compared to the aftermarket wires. Did you take pictures
