Are these plastic inlays in the style of burnt wood? Kind of like the CLK Black Series look

I also had the seats reupholstered. I have a yellow Crossfire. They did my seats in black, with the center portion of the seats perforated and yellow showing through. Additionally all the exposed thread was done in yellow as well. I will post a couple of pictures. Looks so much better!

Has anyone found a real wood overlay for Crossfires?

It would be impossible to go around curves and it would look like slabs of wood were stuck on.

There are companies that use real thin wood vernier such as rose wood, ebony, koa then mold it. Anyone?

Unfortunately, you’re never going to get veneer to follow the curves of the existing plastic. If you could, it would be crazy crazy expensive. Veneer flitches are stitched together with glue and a “paper” seam tape. It’s brittle and works best when applied over flat substrates.

I’ve seen wood veneer vacuum formed over curves but it’s on very expensive wood veneered items items. No one is going to spend that kind of dough on a 15 year old car.
lots of comments about the price of a 3D printed Double din. If this was a possibility, it would be many times the price of that. The most cost effective solution would be a wrap. But that too poses a problem, the wrap may prevent the pieces from snapping back into place.

Good luck on this project, looking forward to seeing your solution.

Why not just paint it or else find someone who does that sort of work.

Unfortunately, it’s not real wood, it’s a synthetic composite. It may look like wood but it’s not.
Comparing this to real wood veneer would be similar to comparing upholstery vinyl to leather.

not denying that it has an appealing finish but it’s not real wood.

I’ve checked with Carid about the “real wood” option. Specifically referenced Chrysler crossfire.
Their reference to real wood refers to an items colour.

This was their reply

But it still looks great and appears to be an interesting alternative to paint.

I am going to double check that. I do not think "Emily" in their customer service department is informed enough about the product. I could be wrong but the "real wood" option is not a color only. It is an upcharge of $150. I had put something similar on a Goldwing back in the 90's. It also was a laminated product that was adhered by 3m tape, the middle layer was the thin wood verneer, then the top was the poly coat. I ACTUALLY JUST CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER TO GET CLARIFICATION.. Now if the Customer Service Person had a name like Thelma or Irene, I might not have this pre concieved notion that the young CSR did not check thouroughly enoungh. We will find out from the manufacturer themself. I will keep you posted. I am of the mind set of trust but verify.

Real wood, for a complete 33 pc dash kit all for $339. Not a hope.

$146, might cover the raw material, add everything else and it’s highly unlikely

Looking forward to hearing/seeing what you uncover

Boy...you're just a ray of sunshine today aren't you. We're not talking 1 inch thick slab hardwood here. Do you realize these dash overlays are only 0.125" or 1/8" thick. That includes the 3m tape, the verneer, and the poly. If you go to Rockler.com they sell "real wood" verneer that is often used in facing cabinetry. The dash overlay manufacturer lays the verneer out over the 3M tape and poly's over the top. Then they CNC cut it. But as I said previously ....people can say anything....you never take anyones advice for face value...always check and verify for yourself.

Not trying to be difficult and I’m not arguing veneer thickness. I’ve been involved with wood veneer for 20+ years. So I’m well versed in veneer

what did you discover from the folks at Remin or Carid? In my earlier post I mentioned that I reached out to Carid for clarification. Their comments posted below

if real wood is an option for $350 I know that there will be several takers. looking forward to hearing what you uncover with supplier Remin
