You've Gotta Love These Heaps of Problems

My name is Mark and I've owned my 2005 Limited Roadster for about 15 months. Since then I've replaced the top, worked through the most time consuming hood latch replacement with which I have ever dealt, screwed up the power top sequence, messed up sensors I didn't even know were there, caught up with all of the scheduled maintenance, and had a ton of fun. Right now I am looking for an SRT6 to go along with the present vehicle, and trying to decide whether or not to put on lambo door hinges. I think they look cool and since I have leg injuries, would make it a heck of a lot easier to get in and out of the car. I'll be attending the Crossfire meet in Tennessee in September and am looking forward to meeting other owners. Ya'll be safe out there, especially if you are passing through Moyock, NC, where I reside.

They can be a handful at times. But when you're driving with the top down and you get that big ass smile on your face, a smile so wide that if you tilt your head back far enough, a PEZ candy will fly out of your face! Now that makes it all worth it!
If Lambo doors work for you, put them on! It's your ride. I think they look cool.

The smile will not go away. I've owned a Jaguar XK150, a Merc Benz 250 SL, a Datsun 2000, an Opel GT 1.9 (stuck a Buick V8 in that one), and a Bug Eye Sprite. They were all temperamental and great fun. The Crossfire has more problems than all of them put together and I guess that's what makes it so much fun. You never know what the day will bring or how you're going to handle it. I've always liked surprises in cars and the Crossfire never lets me down in that department. The most fun though, was getting an email from a guy in Russia informing me of a back door to opening my stuck trunk. My wife thinks I'm the worlds greatest liar, and absolutely refuses to believe that turning the key and pressing the top down button would ever open a trunk!

Well damn! I just learned something new! (The stuck trunk trick).
Thanks!

'bout 60 years ago I found myself wandering around a little town called Bad Kreuznach. Some friends of mine were M60A1 drivers in a little town called Baumholder just a few miles to the south. Now those weren't sports cars, but I'd bet they had a few smiling drivers too.

If your Crossfire has a lot of problems it must have many miles on it, been mistreated or whatever. Mine has had less problems than any car I have had.
You must be pretty pissed that you got rid of the Jag.

I always had a smile driving my M60A3. It was the biggest Chrysler I've ever driven. LOL
I was stationed in Erlangen which is north of Nuremberg. I miss driving my tank and I miss the guys I served with, My ETS was in 1985.

Re: You've Gotta Love These Heaps of Problems

As I think about this, describing a Crossfire as a "heap of problems" is a poor choice of words. I knew when I purchased an almost 20 year old vehicle, that it would carry a lot of baggage. Having no idea, other than appearance, of its condition, I have been steadily catching up on all of the maintenance of which I had no knowledge. The past year has been a steady course of oil and filter changes, engine and cabin air filter changes, transmission, steering, rear end, brake and coolant fluid changes, replacing the crank position sensor, serpintine belt, and coolant hoses (one coolant line about five miles from home). I have replaced the top on my roadster and am going to recover the seats next month. I have experienced a couple of stuck ignition keys, an engine shut down while cruising, occasional stalling, but so far nothing serious. On my own, I managed to screw up the power top while wiring in a new illuminated wind screen, a stuck trunk lid which a forum member had a very easy electric bypass, and a broken hood latch (maybe I pulled too hard on the below dash lever). Anyway, it has not been a heap of problems; instead, it has been a vehicle which is rapidly becoming a well maintained vehicle which garners constant positive comments and is surrounded by people taking pictures. Is it expensive to maintain ? ? ? Hell yes! Unreasonably so ? ? ? Not at all. And by the way . . . my stock limited roadster topped out at over 150 one evening on a lonely stretch of I-95. Wow . . . that would have been a truly expensive ticket!

I would think a car with that many miles would have already had this repair done, but one never knows until you dig into the switch.
"Stuck ignition keys" FIX THAT now or you will be very sorry you didn't do it while you can still remove the key! CLICK Sticky Key Fix

"experienced a couple of stuck ignition keys" ??? Yup, do the "sticky key fix" now if you can't tell that it has already been done. Some will write "Sticky Key" on the back of the inside driver side fuse panel if they performed it. There is no other way to tell if it was performed other than taking it all apart and seeing if that piece of crap metal and spring has been removed. If that key gets stuck the job gets much harder. This youtube upload from Paul has only been viewed 58,000 times... there is a reason it has been viewed so many times.

Keep up the good work! 👍🏾👌🏾
I don't own a roadster but I too have been doing the same of catching up on maintenance on my 212k+ O4 limited 6-speed I picked up in January. Just pulled seats and shampooed carpets yesterday.(posted in "what did you do to your Crossfire today sticky) I have 4 other vehicles ranging from years 07-16 and I don't believe it's anymore expensive to maintain than any of those, and most you can do on your own as well!
