Why I'm glad I don't drive an exotic
I was poking around CarDomain and saw this blog post of some guy with a Ferrari 550 Maranello. Let me tell you that I am so glad not to own one of these cars. I don't see why people pay so much for them when the repairs are quite literally out the wazoo.
I bought the Car in October 2001 with 14,000 miles on it. I took it in to the Ferrari dealer for service right away... New Clutch New Hoses under the manifold Oil change Transmission Fluid 2 new rear tires Tubi Exhaust TOTAL $10,000 Then becasue the exhaust was so loud I had to get a new stereo system. Brax Amp Eclipse Head unit Eclipse CD Changer Dynaudio 2 way speakers TOTAL $4,000 Then ...Upgrade to Xenon headlights And added a custom subwoofer behind the seat. TOTAL $1,950 Then in December 2002 with 20,000 miles I took it in for service... New brakes New rotors Replace motor mounts Replace valve cover gaskets Replace timing belts Replace pulleys and idler bearings Rebuild water pump Oil Change Transmission Fluid change Brake fluid change TOTAL $11,000 Then 2 weeks later my emergency flashers started going off all by themselves... Replace fuel pump inertia switch Replace 1 windshield wiper arm Fix odometer reset button TOTAL $2,000 It's other nickname is the Money Pit... |

This page right here guarantees me never to buy a Ferrari ever, even if I have the money to blow on it. I'll get a Porsche (oh wait, already have one of those ;)) that won't cost nearly as much. He would have been much better off spending that money on an SRT-6. 'Driving it off a cliff, and see it destruct, PRICELESS'. :p |

I don't know whether that says more about the owner and dealer than the car. :D
Having said that here's a 'simple' clutch change on an F50: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...1&d=1169510074 |

Re: Why I'm glad I don't drive an exotic
The shop I had paint our Super Bee was also a certified Ferrari service center. While the car was there, I saw them put a new clutch in two 355 spyders. They had a service (fluids and hoses) that went along with them at 15,000 mi and cost around $12,000!!! They also told me that it was normal!

I guess if one can afford that car, the price isn't out of line but being a poor boy when they said, "sir you need a new clutch" and I go at 15,000 miles?
They say yeah, I go OK about how much will that be? And when they said about $12,000. I would not only need a clutch but also need an ambulance! |

And I thought the "pos" Land Rover Discovery we had was expensive...$1,200 for front brakes, $600 for ABS sensor.
