Looks Like a Crossfire design to me.

Take a look at the Front quarter panel strakes and the Rear end hatch and fender design.
Now that Chrysler and MB are no more and the fact that Karmen is out of business, I suspect MB thought to use the forward looking and timeless design of the crossfire.

Well, the side strakes predate the Crossfire in the Mercedes lineup. The Mercedes McLarel SLR featured them as did the 300SLR from the 1950s, among others.

 

YEP.....but when you look at the *** end of the propesed new design, it looks just like the XF. The stakes look more like the XF than the MB products.

 

I think sometimes we see what we want to see, and I am of course referring to myself

Looking at the prototype pictures in this article, the similarities become less XF-specific...

Well it does have four wheels if that is what you mean.

 

I think you have linked to the gas powered version pics.
However the strakes look great.
It would make sense to make the electric version smaller.

The original gizmag article indicates that the design is different.

From the article:
Mercedes and its performance arm AMG gave us a tantalizing glimpse of the electric sports car of the maybe-not-so-distant future today with a cryptic outline of a new SLS AMG with electric drive.

So when you look closely at the outline the rear end looks very rounded, XF ish, and the overall design is much shorter, much like the XF.

Anyhow this may only be a mock up and the final design may be like the gas powered version.
