The future is already here. We did not lose our jobs to China but to Computers and machines. China has state of the art automation.along with Germany. Gary

I saw something on this a while ago. Apparently you can go right to this place and order a car from the "silo". They store all colors etc, forget which VW it was ?? Maybe the Golf?
I think it was the same TV series that showed the Lambo and Camaro factories. HD Net if I remember correctly.

This is the plant you are referring to, located in Wolfsburg, Germany, which manufactures the lesser-cost VW's such as the Golf and the New Beetle. There is an earlier transparent factory (2008) in Dresden harboring the luxurious Phaeton; - .a stunning automobile.

Factories : Company information : Volkswagen UK ... I encourage you to 'surf' the co.uk transparent factory website (in German) for eye-popping automotive pleasure.

And I do believe this was included in your AOL yesterday, under 'Business' as a tag to the struggle that GM faces . - . they have a wee bit of catching up to do.

Yep, the Phaeton was made at the "Transparent Factory" with the Bentley Continental Flying Spur. The Phaeton (like the Crossfire) is a whole lot of car for the money used, if you're in the market for a full size saloon with more electronics than most five cars put together...

Good find. But the UAW would never allow that much transparency into their plants. Enough said.

The trouble with this car is that it looks like a VW.
For that money you would want something with more cachet to the name.

The cool thing is, jobs weren't lost to computers and automation - those two industries created more jobs than they replaced. Not only do you have to manufacture the hardware, you need programmers for the software to make it work, and you need techs to install it and keep it working. Companies never needed an IT department before, right?

What you say is true but only until the automation is highly developed. Then the need for human intervention drops. This cycle will continue....Darwin applies here also. Gary
