Thanks for sharing. |
Re: Ya...it's got a HEMI
I was only 12 years old when Craig Breedlove set the LSR with his "Jet" car back in 1963, and for some reason that 407 mph really made an impression on me at the time.
For several years after he traded the record back and forth with Akron natives Walt and Art Arfons. Even though I could have driven 7 miles over to Arfons shop in the mid 60's and asked to see their cars and listen to stories and ideas straight from the horses mouth (so to speak), I always felt Breedlove was my favorite. Now (nearly 50 years later) they're going faster with a 4 cyl. and it just boggles the mind when you think about it. I wonder what the Summers Brothers who built the GoldenRod "streamliner" with the 4 Hemi V8's would think about the most recent piston engined accomplishment? http://www.autoweek.com/article/20061030/free/61020001 |

The Speed Demon site.
http://speeddemon.us/index.php That's fast, how about another 300mph plus, the sound barrier. Thrust SSC - Supersonic Land Speed Record Holder - YouTube Not a US team so it may not have been mentioned much. Quite an achievement. Two engines from a Phantom I believe. |

Ha, I know George. We are invested in a company (unrelated to racing) where George is a principal. He's a very nice guy, a gentleman, and a good businessman. In addition to the Speed Demon team, George has his own racing company called embarassingly Camel Toe Racing and a hell of a nice collection of classic cars to boot. George is in his 60's so yes, he does have balls of steel to be doing this. He is a true enthusiast if ever there was one. I keep expecting to hear he's killed himself but so far so good.
Here's a link to Speed Demon on his Camel Toe Racing website. CamelToe Racing |
