World's Fastest: 270.49 mph Hennessey Venom GT
On February 14, 2014, the Hennessey Venom GT set a new world speed record for 2-seat sports cars by reaching a top speed of 270.49 mph (435.31 km/h). The test was performed at the Kennedy Space Center on the 3.2-mile Space Shuttle landing runway. Brian Smith, Director of Miller Motorsports Park, drove the Venom GT to its record speed. A representative from Racelogic, world-renowned maker of VBox GPS data-acquisition systems, was on hand to independently verify and document the Venom GT's highest recorded speed. The Venom GT was powered with Pennzoil Platinum® with PurePlus™ Technology, a first of its kind synthetic motor oil made from natural gas.:cool::cool:

Don't you have to go back down the track within an hour for it to be an officially recognized record.

Re: World's Fastest: 270.49 mph Hennessey Venom GT
Lessee, they take a little (<900kg) Brit car and stuff a big souped up American V8 innit. Sound familiar ? Wonder what tires they used ? Notice the ratchet shifter ? .6:1 6th would be nice in my XF.
ps thought for a record there had to be a pass in both directions ? F-16 used to put on quite a show, had enough power to climb vertically but no show lasted more than 15 minutes because that much max-AB meant it was out of JP. |
Re: World's Fastest: 270.49 mph Hennessey Venom GT
its not an official record because you do in fact need to go up and then back to compensate for wind variations.. however, they said that there was pretty much no wind that day so the result would have been the same.. but NASA wouldn't let them run twice
so the "unofficial" worlds fastest that being said, the picture of the car flying the American flag is my current background |
