I don't know if this is true but I heard that its going to be around $10,000 over sticker because of limited production.

Re: $37,998 New Challenger

I think I'm the only person on the planet who is not particularily excited by the Second Coming of the Challenger. I see 3 strikes against it:

A. It's being introduced at a poor time. The economy is shaky and fuel prices are high. Not a good time to spring a $38K (plus whatever the dealers will mark up) on a non-luxury car that won't be setting MPG records.

B. It's heavy. Last I read was that the car would be 4,300 lbs. The car needs to be trimmed a good 500 lbs.

C. It looks too much like the original. Yes, I know it's a Challenger, but I think it could have been styled slightly different from the original. The current Charger doesn't look anything like the first Charger, yet it captures the spirit of the original one quite well.

On the plus side folks don't have a problem plopping down thousands more for a Shelby Mustang, the other SRT-8 vehicles handle well in spite of their weight, and the car will appeal to those who missed out on getting the original Challenger.

My prediction is that the car will stay in production for 5 years, and sales will mimic that of the Crossfire except they will be 10K higher each year. Further prediction is that the new Camaro will outsell the Challenger, though enthusiasts will consider the Challenger the cooler car. Ultimately both cars will be dropped due to poor sales/poor MPG/high insurance - in other words the 70's will be repeated. And at the end of the day the Mustang will still be around.

Re: $37,998 New Challenger

I just read that the initial introduction will consist only of the SRT-8, with the 6.1 ltr Hemi. It will be, according to the article, sold only in Black, Silver and Orange, and will be limited to less then 10,000 units, with numbered dash plaques.

We can all imagine the dealer ADM on these initial, limited units. Watching the feeding frenzy at a Ford dealer for the Shelby GT500's, I think all of the initial SRT-8 models will sell, no matter the ADM, but then...only time will tell.

Or you could just do it the old fashion way and forget the instant depreciation...

Re: $37,998 New Challenger

Haven't heard anything about pricing yet, but I heard only around 5,000 cars for the 1st wave. The idea being around 1 per dealer. The 3 colors are right, (Orange, Black, and Silver), there will be no manual transmission, and all will be SRT-8 w/ 6.1 Hemi. There is a V6 and a 5.7 coming, and also talk about getting a 6-Speed transmission. We are a large dealer, we are only getting 1. Chrysler won't tell us what color, and we have had 5 deposits for about a year now. People gave us money when they announced that it was going to go into production. We will sell ours for sticker, but I'm sure you won't be able to get one of these cars for under $50,000.

Looks pretty cool but the lack of a manual and the excess weight kills the deal for me. I don't really need a back seat so I'd rather grab a low-miles SRT6 Crossfire and get a lot more bang-for-the buck !

I thought they were going to do some with the Viper 6 spd tranny.
I bet the price of 38k will be 50k at the dealers (c/o markups).
I'd rather have an old Challenger.
A guy I work with is 1st on the Challenger SRT list around here.

i had a chat with the owner of my chrysler dealer my neigbor, he told me there will be fewer challangers than dealers and it will be the good ol boy network to decide who gets them. he assured me that he would have one for me if i wanted it. i will be jumping on it, its good to be neigbors with one of the aramco boys! ;)

that is going to be one cool street car, but it will never replace my crossfire!

Re: $37,998 New Challenger

This car could be a big hit for Chrysler as the Camaro could be for GM. They have a great chance here to lure away buyers from the imports. Build quality has to be excellent they have to offer a V6 with decent power and MPG. Last but not least price point will be huge. Good bang for the buck. 6.1 and 5.7 excellent performance but not everyones cup of tea due to price and fuel economy. Oh I forgot great marketing.

i like it something fresh in the car market today... it is nice to go back to the classic designs once in a while...

Will it replace my SRT? ... no way.

I sure hope it brings back the old "Trans Am" style racing series. I think it would be so much more interesting seeing "stock" bodied "Pony Cars" battling it out once again. As opposed to hand formed, generic shaped, NASCAR racers going round and round for 500 miles.

There is talk that the Nascar Busch Series or what ever they are calling it next year may use the Pony cars in the future.

Re: $37,998 New Challenger

I'm betting that the 5.7 hemi Challengers will sell for around $30,000...these should be the hot ticket as there are a lot of parts to hop-up that engine for the "extra" $10,000 savings over the SRT.
