Default Lewis and Clark Launching

The Emma Maersk thread motivated me post these pictures of the launching of the Lewis and Clark in May 05 in San Diego.

The L&C is the lead ship of a new class of supply ships for the USN. The ship was built in a local shipyard and the launching was opened to the public. It was pretty much a family event and there were hundreds of attendees. There was a pre-launch ceremony with the great great great etc decendent of one of the explorers, I forgot which. The actually launching was surprising in that the ship made no sound sliding down the slipway. There even was a fireworks display. The whole affair sure turned out to be enjoyable.

After 200 years I wonder if the Clark family is getting tired of second billing.

Second billing is better than no billing. How many "normal" families out there don't even get mentioned??
