why were the tabs cut off?

It makes removing the line pipe easier. I was playing around with different modifications.

what feasible use would you ever concieve of this? sorry to say it but it's now an ashtray

I dont agree at all.

The tabs i cut off arent necessary, 4 large bolts hold the i/c to the s/c and are more than suffecient. The leak is so small that if you had one of the aftermarket intercoolers that leaked really badly (not naming any brands) and didnt want to spend $1000 for a new i/c this would be an alternative. Or you can use the flanges off it and design your own aftermarket core, which i almost did. If i hadnt received such a good deal on a used i/c i would have just kept this one on the car. As long as you dont let the i/c run dry it will keep iats down, and i actually went over a month w/o having to refill. So lets say $75 shipped vs $1000...yes the leak could hypothetically get bigger but if money were tight id take my chances.
