I wonder if the pitted fogs can be polished out?

From my personal experience : NO.

I bought some cerium oxide and have polished the pitted one I have at least 8 times, still pitted, although a LOT better than it was.
I don't think you will ever reach crystal clarity.

Mine started out where you couldn't even see the bulb and reflector, now you can but the major pits are still there.
I'd say you'd have to take 2-3 thousands off the surface, and that's not gonna happen unless you take it to a professional glass/mirror polisher ( if such a thing exists ).

You can get your windshield repaired in a parking lot, but I don't think their machine is small enough to do the fog light (chip) repair.

I picked up a fog light cheap off Ebay but it's pitted pretty badly.
I thought about trying something like these diamond pads then use the ceium oxide

Using successively finer grits should do the trick, just like the headlight restoration. This glass seems to be not too hard.

I figure it's worth a shot. I picked up a random orbit polisher a few weeks for detailing the paint. Those discs will fit right on it.

Maybe for you, not for me. That was the first thing I tried. 300-500-800-1000-2000-3000.
No joy.

Was that with a diamond abrasives or wet/dry sandpaper?
Here's a video of glass polishing using diamonds.

A friend if mine ground a glass reflector for a telescope to a mirror finish, he used finer and finer grit. I guess diamond dust was used, I know it can be done.

Of course it can, but I seem to be all out of diamond dust at the moment :D
