I wonder if the pitted fogs can be polished out?

I bought some cerium oxide and have polished the pitted one I have at least 8 times, still pitted, although a LOT better than it was. I don't think you will ever reach crystal clarity. Mine started out where you couldn't even see the bulb and reflector, now you can but the major pits are still there. I'd say you'd have to take 2-3 thousands off the surface, and that's not gonna happen unless you take it to a professional glass/mirror polisher ( if such a thing exists ). |

You can get your windshield repaired in a parking lot, but I don't think their machine is small enough to do the fog light (chip) repair.

Re: For sale pair of used fog lamps complete nice shape
I picked up a fog light cheap off Ebay but it's pitted pretty badly.
I thought about trying something like these diamond pads then use the ceium oxide http://www.ebay.com/itm/Diamond-Polishing-Pads-4-inch-Wet-Dry-8-Piece-Set-Granite-Stone-Concrete-Marble/121653206795?_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150313114020%26meid%3D27f56819eeb84d14938a02361e6b9369%26pid%3D100338%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D29%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D181992188516 |

I figure it's worth a shot. I picked up a random orbit polisher a few weeks for detailing the paint. Those discs will fit right on it.

Using successively finer grits should do the trick, just like the headlight restoration. No joy. |

Maybe for you, not for me. That was the first thing I tried. 300-500-800-1000-2000-3000. No joy. Here's a video of glass polishing using diamonds. |

Of course it can, but I seem to be all out of diamond dust at the moment :D
