Black wrinkle painted valve covers.

I now have the LAST set of black wrinkle painted valve covers that maxcichon dropped by to deliver today. I say LAST, because Max sold his roadster and is now out of the Crossfire business.
I would like $100 plus shipping for them with a promise to send me your old covers, or $250 plus shipping outright.

BTW, Max WAS the official H7 headlight bulb spring wire retainer builder, he willed me the jig and enough wire stock to last a lifetime.
If you need a retainer, they are $10 including shipping.

Remember Max did this job, you can bet that they are as clean as a whistle.
I'm tempted to buy them myself and send my spare set of covers back.

I have had three other inquiries about these, so far no commitment.
First come, first serve.
NOTE: If you want the exchange, send your valve covers and I will return these in the same container, so be sure you pack carefully.

ala_xfire,

Do you still have these covers available? I was thinking that I would like to take you up on your offer and schedule a time with you if you can still help me replace the valve cover gaskets. If you still have these covers I would be stupid not to buy them from you and trade my old ones. When is a good time for you? I should have the parts delivered next week. Thanks again!!

Sorry, I do not. I still have the covers but the crinkle paint is gone, they are now prepped for powder coat, along with a set of front calipers.
I have yet to decide what color though.
As to a time, anytime after Sun 18.

Re: Black wrinkle painted valve covers.

Wrinkle paint is easy to do, you have to wash the surface and then spray three coats of paint before it competely dries, like 15-20 minutes apart. THEN you need to dry it with heat, I use heat lamps to even up the wrinkle finish as it occurs during the curing process.

I have been doing wrinkle as a kid for my ham radio chassis and equipment. For first timers, just grab a piece of solid material and practice to get a feel for the process. A 250 watt heat lamp makes it easy, and the heat lamp is useful for drying other paint projects.

I will be painting my new crossover manifolds in wrinkle paint before putting them on this spring, though I have not decided on a color, but it will be a bright color for sure.

Enjoy, Woody

Thanks Woody ! I had an even easier process called "Give them to maxcichon", but he deserted the flock and went over to the VW GTI dark side.

Does wrinkle finish adhere o.k. on the new teflon coated intake manifolds with just a scuff sand?

These should just about fit in the oven right? What temperature are they cured at please and how long? Of great importance would they smell too much when getting baked. I guess the temp is on the can but what does the expert say?
If I spring a leak I intend to do this, keeping my fingers crossed for no leaks though until the fall at the earliest.

Dave, you will need to ask Max Cichon these questions, he did them, not I.
I do know he did use the oven while his wife was at work :)
His email is cichomc@auburn.edu

Re: Black wrinkle painted valve covers.

The enamel smells powerfully, ask my mom about 60 years ago, she figgured it out when she came home.

I typically do it in the garage when its 60 degrees plus. The paint is put on clean metal, the teflon is on the inside of the manidolds and the exterior should have none on it.

three heavy coats, with about 15 - 20 minutes between coats. Then after about 1/2 hour you ""PAINT"" the object with the heat from a heat lamp or two, moving them as needed to get an even pattern of wrinkle. Doing this in the kitchen is fine at your X's I guess but the car wont be the only one in the garage at night if you do it in your kitchen. It smells like strong varnish for days after drying / curing. Ill do it to mine as soon as the weather hits 60 degrees, and Ill show it then.

Enjoy, Woody

Yea , I thought I was slick ( smell lingered for days). The "honeydew list", increased 3 fold an there was a "cash" payout! In hindsight, I would have been money ahead , to buy my own stove...
