Tyred Out!
I've just finished swapping my wheels over to my track set ready for tomorrow's trackday and thought I'd post up pics. This set comprises OEM size Pirelli P Zero Rossas front and Michelin Pilot Sport rears on a 'well used' set of factory rims. They have done a few thousand road miles followed by two track sessions (one in the wet). I'll post up the 'after' pics later tomorrow when they will almost certainly be completely shot.

Woody,
Back in the days when I was racing in SCCA Showroom Stock competition, we used to shave the thread of dry racing tires to prevent the type of heat build up that your tires are showing. Talk about a waste of perfectly good thread but in fact the tires would perform a lot better from running cooler and last longer than unshaved tires on a front drive car. Depending on budget we would start on 1/8 or 1/16" and run them until they were completely bald.
Anyway good luck tomorrow and keep us posted.

And yes, I have often seen the FWD racers jacking up a front wheel to spin the wheel and shave the tread off a brand new tyre with a surform or the like. The airfield track that I normally run on is mostly ridged concrete runway so pretty abrasive. The trouble with the Crossfire is I can only carry two wheels in the back and have to drive home on whatever I have left, so its a case of keeping an eye on the temps and wear rate throughout the day. A good job its only a few miles from home.

ESP remained fully off though. I think I'll stick to track driving. Here is what came off:

But I'll be having another go on the 21st which is on grass this time. I'll mount up the camera for a laugh!

PS: I had some REALLY interesting phone conversations today regarding my barrage of e-mails sent to the people I mentioned to you in the PM... The information is so lengthy and convoluted, I would have to discuss on the phone... send me your # again via PM...
Quick! before you change your tires... get out your video camera and show us a TRUE donut with your Crossfire and the TC/ESP totally off... WHEEE!!!
