Default new challenge

hey guys one of my friends just challenged me to a race at Rocky mountain raceway, he drives an 04 infinity G35 which I understand is basically a 350z, but it is a 4 door automatic with AWD. I am still worried I am gonna lose what are your opinions?

Somebody has to lose, you won't really know unless you try. Are you worried that if he wins than he is better than you? His car is probably faster, espeically with an AWD launch and no miss auto trans. I'm sure you can find the real performance specs of his and your car on line, if that helps protect your ego. Car and Driver generally has accurate ratings and it will help you find the cars you can beat with 225hp and 3200lbs. You can safely pick on 6 cylinder Mustangs and serveral mini vans. Just calculate the power to weight ratios and that will answer most of your accleration questions.

4500 pounds? no way, check that again, maybe 3500.

And you will lose, but not horribly. probably runs a 14.4 or so, you are in a car that can do a 14.8 with good driving.

That's probably the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) which is the curb weight (what you really want to find) plus max load of passengers, fuel, fluids and cargo.

Yes, but GVWR means nothing when comparing performance specs. You can have two cars with identical weights but with vastly different GVWR. I would suspect a 3000lb (arbitrary number) 4 door sedan with a large trunk to have a higher GVWR than a 3000lb two seater with a tiny trunk. Just so you know.

Chiming in a little late but I used to drive a G35 6MT (The RWD Sport Coup) and it was good for 13.9 - low 14s. I think the AWD will pull 14.1 with no problems. I believe the weight difference is about 150 pounds with awd so you are looking at 3700-3800 pounds. Regardless Gs are quick, pretty much a better looking, beefier 350z.

It's not a coupe, a awd sedan is alot more than 150lbs heavier than the coupe. Like I said, 14.4 or so with a slushbox.

This site puts him at 6.2 seconds 0 to 60. That's about where your at. Should be interesting. I would think that any longer than 0-60 considering the light weight and the aerodynamic shape of your Crossfire you would pull ahead. Your 14.7 for the quarter mile and he's 14.6. How about 0 to 150 and stop ? Show him these times, call it a draw and then go chill out over a brew. Maybe you guys could run a foot race, Ha.

you can can probably take him by half a fender.

if he's a 4 door, he's already a bit porky, throw in the auto trans and that's more drag on his motor, then you said he has an AWD system, which is even more drive line drag, sheesh he's probably loosing 25-30% from all that pork
