Anywhere you can log in to the internet that offers wifi will save your phone plans data usage for surfing the internet. And you "have" to log into it.. not an automatic thing just because you turned on the wifi on your phone. And as a side note... if your not using the internet turn off the wifi on your phone to conserve battery life.

Edit.. we we're talking phones.. but just in case you mean on the forum.. that shows the most current posts.. LOL.

I'm gonna take it that you aren't pulling our collective leg.
Normally, a modern cell phone uses 4g technology to access data ( and voice ) via cell towers.
The WiFi is an option that will connect your cell to a WiFi connection for data only supplied by you or McDonald's and others to the internet without line charges, and at a muchfaster rate.
The problem with WiFi is the limited range vs the 4g range.
WiFi is usually only reliable within 100 feet of the source receiver/transmitter.

My Samsung S-5 handles wi-fi with ease. It shows me a list of available wi-fi in range and whether it is
secure or free. Just touch connect and you're in. I can't be wasting money on bytes. I have to buy premium gas for the Toy.

My brother-in-law has an i-Phone and that thing seems to be a pain. (Maybe he has the settings out of whack.)

Yep, same here, Galaxy S5 - finds more hotspots than you can count.
Was at Regional Medical Center in Anniston, AL the other day and it found 3 pages of hotspots.

I tend to be old school so have a SIII. Big scream & works well with my Sony Smartwatch. When out of range I have a Verizon hotspot for travel/camping.

If computer averse then best off with Apple products and the Crossfire is a good choice since it doesn't even have an AUX input jack (some of us have fixed that).

iPhone does the exact same thing. It must be the user settings.

Yes and no. The wifi speed is limited to the internet connection speed. I know of a situation where the wifi internet speed is 1.5mb but on the phones 4G it's 30mb. So the user needs to decide, free data at 1.5 or use data at 30mb.

I have to agree with that statement.

I had to get a digital phone some years back when they quit sending analog signals, it is a flip phone and somewhat dated.
Being a progressive sort I decided to get a smart phone which I got going when my son told me the SIM card went in 90° to the way I had inserted it.

I took it out with me today for the first time when I went fishing, pulling it from my pocket to show my buddy it slipped from my hand and became the third thing I pulled from the lake today.

It worked after I dried it and successfully made its first and last call when I tested it as it never worked again.

I did not like it anyway, so now I am going to re register my old one or look for a different phone.

I have a flip phone & my wife hunts me down with it. "Where are you Honey? "I'm in the car, I know I said I would be home at 5 & it is 5:05." Give me a break.

I tell the young kids with their Smart phones that we didn't even have a phone when I was a kid. (1955). I also ask them if they are putting money in their IRA when they pay their Smart phone bill. Usual answer is "What's an IRA?"
