Have traveled on many scenic roadways, but never the Talimena Byway. My wife and I are planning a trip through there in the fall to take advantage of the fall colors (end of October timeframe?).

May be way too far in advance, but just thought I'd throw out the idea and see the discussion that may follow.

For those that are familiar with the area, any suggestions of the best time to take in the foliage?

 

I've only been there a couple of times. I don't know about when is the best time for the foliage, but I do know that the road is fun! But with the fall colors comes all the traffic. Still, should be a very nice drive.

 

Went up there with the local Porsche 914 club and had a blast. We went up in late October and it was BEAUTIFUL.. We really didn't have that many problems with traffic. There were some, but we went pretty early so we could get some good SUNRISE shots of the cars.
