Did you ever resolve this?

I've been getting it too. P0505 and P0507. It seems to only come up when I start the car and let it idle for a few minutes. I clear the code, and it goes away. I haven't had any trouble with the car, it seems to run fine.

Who's tune do you have? When did it start?

i only got the p0505 ,, It started after i got the let tune ,, not saying that is the cause ,,, i took it to a dealer and they said i need a throttle body,,they replaced the throttle body ,,i still get to code about every 150 miles of hard driving (I only drive it hard)

That's interesting that yours started after your tune. So did mine. Had you done any other mods right before the tune?

That's too funny Jim. I usually get about 19 mpg, so I guess that means I drive more like your wife! I just wish I really know what the codes were indicating.

There is a stepper motor within the throttle body that when you start the car, the motor fully opens/closes the throttle plate to see the limits that the throttle plate can travel. When you're off the throttle, (idling) the plate isn't fully closed otherwise the engine would shut off (lean out). I haven't looked at the throttle plate but some manufacturers drill a small bore hole so that the plate can fully shut but air can enter through that hole to enable idling. If you keep going through throttle bodies and the same code appears, I don't think it's mechanical issue, more along the lines of an electrical, either wiring back to ECM or tuning parameters. Just a thought, not bashing anyone.

Thanks for the code list, AMX. Unfortunately, the six word descriptions don't mean much to me. Seriously, what does "Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected" really mean? Does it mean that my engine is idling too high? How about "Idle Control System Malfunction"? What the heck does that mean? What kind of malfuction?

Looks like this was never resolved. I now have the same code.

Gonna check thing and see if I find anything that might have disconnected or whatever. Will report back if I find anything.

Well i had this same code. I got it after installing the Needswings Catch Can. Long story short, I had a leak at the upper intake manifold. Seems the screws have some type of locktite from the factory and I removed the manifolds for the instal and didn't use any type of locktite on the re instal so the screws backed out causing an intake manifold leak. Check the torque on the screws. If they are loose get new gaskets and use locktite ..... can't remember which one. I think it's the blue. Use the not so permanent color.

I resolved mine. It was leaking manifold gaskets. I put new gaskets on (and removed my phenolic spacers) and the P0505 went away never to return.

Checked everything. Didn't see any problems. Drove to San Diego and back (1000 mile trip) no codes. Cool for now I guess.
Thanks for the replies. Thanks for the code list.

Speaking of the code list, if you go to the sites "images" url, there are more "code girls" listed.
Including this one tagged "woody_girls".

Hey Folks. While poking around the RCM I also noticed what may be causing some of us (myself included) problems with getting the dreaded PO505 fault code. Once I get a look at a few different RCM's I may be able to determine if what I suspect might be the problem, is the problem.
Once I can verify these problems (need more RCM's) I'll do one of my DIY's with extensive pics and write up on how to fix the RCM yerself for both problems.
If this all works out we will save big $$$ and a lot of headaches.

Did you ever find what you were suspecting about the 505 and the RCM?

I guess not, nine years later no answer.
I looked it up for Mercedes and it is a function of the IACV, ECM and AAC.
The idle is adjusted by the step motor to suit the power needs at the moment.
I have no idea what some of this means.
