Default 2004's, Have you changed your battery?

The other weekend I went out to start the 2004 coupe and the battery didn't have enough juice to budge the starter. There had been no warning that the battery was getting weak. I felt fortunate that the battery failed at home as I didn't have to pay $$ for a jump and had the luxury of shopping for the best price for a battery. So this is a word of advise, if you haven't replaced your battery, IT'S TIME TO!

You did good getting what you did out of it.
Read another post where a replacement battery may be a little hard to find.

Be sure to post where you got the repalcement and how much $$$ it cost.
Later...

I remembered this recent thread about batteries. I went to the Interstate website and found that a local Firestone store sold them. I called to verify that they had the MTP-91 in stock, the guy knew without looking that they had plenty of them. It cost $99.99 and is an 85 month battery.

I usually try to replace batteries before their life expectancy is up. This one caught me off guard. I guess I should not have expected more than 48 months out of an OEM battery.

My car was built in Jan. of 04, and I purchased it brand new in April of 05, so that's when my warranty started. April of 08 is when my battery failed me, but since I got my car into the dealer just days before the 36k warranty was up, they replaced my four year old battery for free.
That's good advice Inferno, and 05 owners should start thinking about it too.

Mine was built in May 2003, think I'm still on the original battery.

You're probably on borrowed time then. Your battery may surprise you at the most inopportune time.

I'll take a look at the date this weekend and plan on changing the battery if needed. Do the battery tenderizers prolong battery life?

I have an '05 SRT6 and I just put a new battery (Interstate MTP-91) in mine a week ago. I was having intermittant startup issues throwing a P0335 crank position sensor CEL. New battery fixed it.

You can get that Interstate battery from Sam's Club for like $87. Did everyone's negative battery cable have corrosion like mine? Seems to be the norm.

Yes it did have a bit of corrosion. I used club soda on it but it didn't help.

Interesting thread My wife and I work at Enersys, MO. (we make batteries for EVERYTHING) I often wonder which application would fit in my 04. The really cool thing is we can buy Employee Sales - cosmetically challanged batteries such as stinger, diehard or Oddesy for $20-30. Im not sure of what would fit in my 04 and havent given it much thought till now. Guess I'll call sears and see what fits.

When I checked Sears doesn't carry anything that fits our car.

If your battery is black it's the original and should be replaced shortly

I didn't understand the black comment from 04fire. The OEM batteries on both my xfires is white. Maybe the black battery was a dealer replaced battery.
