I didn't even think about the Day/Night switch since mines Auto Dimming. If you grind more radius to the side closest to the windshield it gives you plenty of clearance. And mine had the allen socket screws so tightening it wasn't an issue. Did you screw the ball base stud all the way in after you re-mounted the mirror? I have noticed mine doesn't bounce around any running down the road.. but sitting at a light with the stereo cranked.. the bass canon in the trunk actually "bounces" it where it's laid against the bottom of the mirror.. LOL.

Mr M, I barely screwed the ball post into the mirror base because the more you screw it in, the higher up the other end ends up. I needed as much hanging down as possible. Also, the post sitting in too far into the mirror base was hitting the mirror mount on the windshield when reattached. The way mine ended up allowed it to be as low as it could get without some sort of extension on the radar bracket. I might look at adding some type of extension in the near future so I can use the mirror dimming lever. BTW, on the trip out to the base and back, the detector didn't move/bounce any at all. Very tight and firm/solid.
Just sayin

There is no way to hard wire the GPS because the wire assembly is also the traffic update wire/antenna (built-in) so it has to stay that way if I use the traffic update feature of the GPS
I have my Garmin hard wired by dropping the power cord down and to the front of the dash cover at the windshield, then tucking it in there, running right to the panel on the passenger side with the key for the airbag, then plugging into a female cigarette lighter socket they is hard wired to the glove box light.
( the glove box light and the cigarette lighter plug are common )
All you see is the small section of wire from the Garmin to the windshield ........

As I stated above the picture.. NO setscrew.. none.. nowhere.. nada.. you thread the hole and insert ball stud.
From my install --- > Got it loose and tapped easy enough, screwed the ball stud into it, and actually put blue locktite on it and just tightend down against the base. Had to custom contour on one side of my CCTV mini bracket radius as it wanted to lay against the windshield. Raised the mirror higher than my normal viewing pleasure, tightend the bracket down and moved the radar detector into position and adjust the mirror down to my proper angle, which snugged it against the detector.. should prevent any bounce rattle that way.
I did not "add" a locking nut - Like GG shows in his on the back of the mirror.. Just tapped the hole.. started the ball mount into the hole.. and put mirror back in place. Put the locktite on and screwed it in by hand till it bottomed out against the windshield mounted bracket.
