Default Exhaust System

I put a new exhaust system on my XF. It's a Thunderbolt, Part #00720. It doesn't sound like a rice burner. Great low tones at idle, exceptional sound at acceleration. I notice the difference in HP too. Redesgin of pipe from Cat Back was required, but that was all. Took two hours. I have some pics in my Gallery. I really do like the sound...................

Muffler $140, labor and design exhaust pipe from cat back $150. $290.00 total. Fast Lane Performance, Waldorf Maryland. They have a web site. Dave Warren owner. Great guy and knows his stuff. Redcross is having him do his this week. I think he is gettin the Magniflow with custom tips. A bit Quieter than mine. PS, still trying to get a wave out.

Had it done today and it is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BUT...................it's much louder that what I was hoping for.

Components are Magnaflow XL Turbo muffler #13278 with 3" inlet and 2 1/4" twin outlets into Ractive T820D Stainless Black Chrome Oval Tips.

It is a Custom Built Cat-Back system that looks like it came on the car.

Here are a couple of pics............

Any chance of that wav file?

I'd really like to make my car louder than it is, I can barely hear the engine, I'm looking for 350Z kind of sound.

I really like the look of the stock end pipes, they can be resoldered into the new muffler right?

Isn't the Magnaflow muffler you used a Tri-Chamber one?

I thought this would give a more toned down sound, what would the car sound like with a performanca muffler?

I'm scared it would sound too loud.

A couple more questions:

1.- Is your system a cat-back? Did you change any of the plumbing prior to the cats? And if so, what cats did you use?

2.- Isn't a 20" long muffler to long to fit in there?

3.- If it isn't too much to ask, could you take pictures of your car from underneath too see it?

Thanks a lot.

I added some pics from underneath and you can see the Professional system that was built.
The muffler body is 14" long and 20" overall length.
As to loudness, it is much louder than the stock system, but nothing like the Civics with their 8" round pipes.
Outside, standing at the side of the road, it's barely audible when it passes @ 50-60MPH, unless you stand on it. I had the wife do just that so I could hear it.
Inside the car you can hear it better until you hit cruising speed and it gets very quiet.
I wanted the 350Z sound level but it turned out twice+ the level.
For my old ears it's too loud and I plan to sell it for what I paid to have it made.

I'm calling the shop tomorrow to make an appointment to have the stock system put back on ASAP!!
If you are interested in the new system let me know and I can bring it to you this coming weekend. That way you have a week to have it put on before the Cross-Up. Remember it's a "BOLT-ON" and requires NO fabrication.
I spent $340 and have the receipt, if interested.

I'm sorry it turned out too loud for you... would like to hear it... Looks pretty darn good from your pictures... And the price of 350+ is darn good considering you had to do some fabrication...

I expect the Borla syatem to be in the range of 600+ if they ever deliver the product... AND that's a BIG IF !!!

I had a muffler shop in LA offer to make a custom cat-back system for the car, but opted to wait for the same reasons you are now wanting to return yours...
