Double bad news in the same week, need help
Double bad news in the same week, need help
I was told in the ER this weekend that I have Congestive Heart Failure. Got in my XF to go home and the ignition stuck. Now I cannot work in my un air-conditioned garage (or in any heat). I need help with the famous Sticky Ignition switch repair. I can bankroll the project, and your expenses, I just cannot get out and do it. Any chance of a rescue? S..O..S
Re: Double bad news in the same week, need help
Wish I were closer Jonathon, I'd be happy to help.
If it can wait till the Dragon, I'll do it for you then in the parking lot.
( as long as I don't need to drill out the pin ).
Take care of yourself, do what Murfi tells you to do, AND NOTHING MORE !

I'll assist Dr. George if it can wait until The Dragon. But I suspect someone living close in TN you will jump in to save the day. Were you able to get that sticky key to finally turn and start the car or is your car "down"?
By the way . . . A diagnosis of congestive heart failure is not as immediately life threatening as it sounds. They can fix you up! Looking forward to seeing you and Murfi at The Dragon again.

Jonathon,
I'm not familiar with the condition that you have been told you have.
I have an artificial heart valve and see my cardiologist every year.
Take all the necessary meds and take it easy my friend.....
afterall you have a heart of gold and must take care of it
Gary

Thanks Gary, I've had a whole lot of plumbing done ever since I was five years old. (Tetralogy of Fallot). Three open hearts, a pulmonic valve and a massive ICD installed. This is probably why I am a little slower driver than the rest of my crazy XF friends. Thanks for your remarks.
And yes, my car is still able to fire up. I've just learned to pay attention to early symptoms in many areas of life including the mechanical ones. Male congestive heart failure folks statistically live four to five years post-diagnosis. Women do better at eight to twelve years post-diagnosis. I personally believe Big Kid went out this way b/c diabetes afflicts folks with CHF. You just kind of "go to sleep". Of course, I'm prepared to go any time; and in any way.
See you all at the Fall Dragon!

That's GREAT Mark, I wish I could go, but .....
1. it's 250 miles each way for me.
2. I have people coming Friday and Saturday this week, and a car show next week.
3. I promised my sister in South Alabama that I'd visit.
excuses, excuses, excuses

Don't let this eat into your time off Mark. Thanks to all of you who have thought of a response. I don't want to inconvenience anyone. I thought there might have been unknown XFers living in E. TN. that know how to do this evidently minor repair. Thanks for the prayers. I perceive that so many in the XF family do not wear their faith on their sleeve as I literally did as a Law enforcement Chaplain, but their hearts are built on the Rock nonetheless. Again, I do NOT wish to inconvenience ANYONE.
Thanks again,

Check your facebook messages. I have tomorrow off (they owed me, this is NOT cutting into vacation or other time), the boss had no trouble approving me.
I can head up tonight and stay at a local hotel - should have it done well before lunch tommorrow. Want the "always hot cigarette lighter" mod as well? That costs $8 in parts and 10 minutes -totally reverse-able anytime.
If you could help with the hotel and gas to drive up, I'll book the room right now! I'd like to see you two apart from the GTGs in order to really talk anyway.

Re: Double bad news in the same week, need help
I also have something to say about this "Congestive Heart Failure" thing.... Jonathan, you are in WAY better shape than my mom was, and she lasted over 15 years after diagnosis. Mom had several procedures and one surgery in that time, she had all sorts of other issues that you must not have or you could not be doing what you do.
Four or Five years in YOUR case? I am speaking out of a LOT of ignorance, but I don't buy that!

Nohemi, the gal who bravely tried the passenger seat at the dragon last year says she really enjoyed meeting you and your wife and she will be praying for you.

Re: Double bad news in the same week, need help
It was about 440 miles round trip for me, Jonathan and Murfi gave me a bed to sleep in and breakfast, as well as gas money for the trip. Got it fixed in about two and 1/2 hours (friend of Jonathan's stopped by to talk cars and that kinda shot the timeline!)
Also, I stopped to look at an Alabaster Roadster in Maryville on the way home, it had been on the lot for a week or so, new top, 36000 miles real clean - $11,900. It had sold earlier that day, a gent from Chattanooga sent a deposit and was coming up Monday to get it.
