Default Question about tow alarm module

I had the leak problem and working my way through buying parts and sealing up the wing and gas filler area. while looking for the lowest price for the tow alarm module I noticed that everyone says to buy part # 1938200126. I did notice that almost all the parts we have on our cars are Mercedes since the car is almost the same as the 2004 SLK 320 / 32AMG. The part number for the 01 - 04 Mercedes SLK320 is 1708201926 and in looking at the part it has exactly the same bracket, the case is exactly the same and even the wire placement is the same ( six wire connector but only three are used and they are the same placement for both parts ). Since everything else including the CLP/SSM is the same maybe this would work. I don't know if it is worth the risk to try.
Just passing along what I noticed in my research.

The CLP/SSM part that I think is correct is 170 800 08 48, that is the part that I see associated with the Crossfire, I have one as a spare.
The tow alarm is the 170 820 19 26 that you mention according to my knowledge. You have the part and the number will be on it, so look and get the correct part instead of guessing.

The one I pulled out of the pool is 193 820 01 26, I was just wondering if anyone had tried the Mercedes part. Just curious, I intend to use one with the same number that was in the car.

When you say pool do you mean the wet trunk?
They are all Mercedes parts so that statement is confusing. What is the part number on the one in the car?

I am not very happy that bought this leaking car and whether I call it pool, puddle or as you put it wet, it all means the same. A very poor design or execution in the assembly process. There should have been a recall of these to fix this huge problem. (Rant over)
The one out of my car is # 193 820 01 26 which does not have the Mercedes logo on it and the one listed on ebay for the 2004 Mercedes SLK 320 / 32AMG is # 170 820 19 26 which does have the Mercedes logo on it.
Just an update that I forgot to mention earlier, Mopar has changed the number of this part from 193 820 01 26 and now lists it as 5102558AA.
All the trouble I have had with this car leaves me with regret for buying it but I am stuck now and have to make the best of it. I really do appreciate all the help that I have found on this forum.

You seem to miss the fact that logo or no logo the part number 193 820 01 26 is a Mercedes part number. It is not a Chrysler part number, the number 5102558AA is a Chrysler number, can you see the difference? They come from two different numbering systems.
Maybe some of the wetness in the trunk is due to your tears.

All cars have problems like it or not, my Chrysler 300 was a piece of junk, so much so that I will never buy another Chrysler again. Prior to that I had a Chrysler Concorde and LHS, they had their problems too but they were nice cars nonetheless. I replaced the 300 with a Hyundai Elantra, no problems in three years.

I disagree, in the last 20 years I have owned an Acura Integra GSR and Honda's, currently own a 2007 Accord V6 Hybrid and not a problem with any of them outside of normal maintenance. The only car I had leak on me was a 1966 Buick Electra that I owned in the 90's, any car that old is bound to have problems due to the technology they used for sealing the glass.

A bit late in the game I realized that buying North American cars was a mistake.
So despite what you know who says I will never buy one again.
Your mistake was buying a car with no warranty, you get what you pay for and you purchased someone elses problems.

Then the Elantra was a mistake. It's made in Montgomery, Alabama - my home town.

I know where it was made, but the quality is better than my 300, there was nothing wrong when I got it and nothing since. No odd screw found leaving me wondering if it was an extra or that it should have gone somewhere important.
We have a Honda plant 20 miles away and a Toyota plant a little farther.

We too have a Honda plant 25 miles away, no Toyota though.
Isn't it remarkable that when Hyundai first came over it had a terrible reputation for quality, and now it is among the best.

I watched a program on TV the other night, it was hosted by James May and it was about the downfall of the Detroit and U.K. auto industries and the rise of the Geman and Japanese auto industries, it was a sad tale.
