The Bosch p/n for the crankshaft position sensor is 0 261 210 170, according to my notes. I hope others will verify this, as I am new to the game.

Here you go, $28:
https://www.germanautosupply.com/mer...ensor-389.html

(If you buy one locally and get an "equivalent" part, know that you may have more issues right away or in the near future. You then get to spend money chasing a problem with the new CPS - without knowing it. Buy the right part the first time.)

Just so that he does not go to Advance, Autozone, O'Reilly's, etc. (I go to them for everything else, but not sensors for these cars).

Whats wrong with autozone? They had the Bosch part and it was .2 miles from the place my car was sitting. I paid more, but I drove the car home...

If they had a Bosch, fine. Others have come home with an "equivalent" and the saga went on for days....

One is a Bosch and one isn't.

In post 3 I posted a link to the right part - why is it people make it so hard? If you can find a Bosch for less than $28, buy it. If you can buy some other item at an even lower price, buy it - just make it CLEAR, later on, when you have issues, that you put in a non-Bosch part - even tho many of us have had issues with such parts. THIS is why I've grown tired of helping people. I, for one, can only give advice based on the experience of myself and others on this forum.

If $28 is too much for the right part, you are gonna HATE it when you price tires for one of these cars.

I'm one who purchased a Borg Warner CPS when I got a Code indicating the it was bad, because it was available .... today. My car quit, dead, everytime the engine hit 4000 rpms with it. So, I cleaned the original Bosch part, cleaned the plug, reinstalled it and to this day it's working perfectly. Most of the time the CPS is fine, it's a dirty or poor connection at the plug. Clean it, snap the connector on and off multiple times, use some dielectric grease and you'll be golden more often than not.

From what I see they are both Bosch and the 28 replaces more than one CPS.
Looks like Bosch is replacing many part numbers that are the same actual part.
Read the blurb on the 28 ad.

Ok! It's not the $28, but I need it! I was confused, but if you look at the link pizzaguy posted for ordering from fcp-euro they have two different numbers. One with mercedez-bosch and below another part # just bosch -same numbers I had, but it shows both numbers to be the same part (grey). I guess Amazon needs to get their act together!! I ordered one yesterday and could not cancel it as it arrives tuesday. Lets see what happens. Live and learn! Thank you very much for the info and appreciate your help. that I need.

I am a bit confused it appears to me that a certain members posts are edited without any record of said edit being made.
Is that possible?

This is why I carry a spare.

My post is for German Auto SUpply, the only place I order them from, and I've ordered four now (one for me, three for other cars experiencing odd issues). I've never had an issue with those parts, why would I suggest someone do something else? I believe Dave is right in what he says about part numbers, but all I know is that THIS part with THESE numbers is the right one.

I'd order one today and in the meantime, take velociabstract's advice above. Several have indicated that wiping the crud/metal shavings off the sensor and perhaps cleaning the contacts has resolved the issue. But again, for me, Carrying a $28 spare seems like the sure fix. The struggle of getting the old one out is bad enough that I just want to REPLACE it and get on with life.

I guess that, after nine years on here, I'm tired of the same old discussion. Those of us who have had (in my case, three Crossfires) these cars and issues with these cars have been thru all of this before. We can SUGGEST and try to help, but if people won't listen, sorry, life is too short and I"m tired of the same old nine year old discussion. (Of course, standing here in great back pain does not help my attitude at all, as I'm sure all can understand....)

DO NOT order one, order two and keep the spare in your trunk!

That is a "Gary" (Valk) question.

As for my experience, I'm a 'supermod' on thespaceport.us, over there, the two admins can do that, but even us mods and "supermods" cannot alter a post without a tag being attached. Same for my time as a mod at christianforums.com.

I can't imagine a regular member could alter a post without a tag being attached saying so.

HEY! I edited tihs post three times, yet no tag! WELL, question answered in the affirmative, Dave.

A-HA if you don't fill out the "reason for editing" box, then no tag is attached.

WOW, that is not how it works everywhere else.

Normally if a user edits their post it tags the post as "edited" regardless of a reason being given
Not sure why you are not seeing edited

I just edited this post at 5:41pm without a reason provided and it says "edited"

Yes, but you MUST give a reason, if you dont, then the post is not tagged as "edited.
